Cleaning Helmet Lens

I have a Ski Doo modular 3 helmet that is about 3 years old. This past weekend the snaps on the breath box broke while I was backpacking and a few times I did not get the holes from the breath box lined up with the helmet holes. When this happened, the inside of my helmet would fog up like one would think. After a few times, the inside of my helmet lens has built up a film like substance that is affecting my vision. I attempted to clean it with a micro fiber cloth and it did nothing. I am guesing I need something more aggresive, but worried about scratching the lens. Any thoughts on what has worked?

Thanks in advance!

The Mod lens seem to have a coated that smears and is hard to see thru... Any thing aggressive will deem it trashed I repeatedly buffed it with a soft rag light soap and water seems to be better but not 100%...

I always carried extra snaps when I did the mod 2 helmet. Those things broke at all the wrong times....

Doo had issues with the lenses on the Mod 3. Mine did pretty much the the same and I got it replaced at N/C.

Contact the place you bought it from.

I'm not sure if this will help with the film but I found a great way to take out scratch's in the visors. Last season we had stopped along the trail for a break and I took off my helmet and set it on the seat. As luck would have it, it fell off and landed on the running board. My running boards are the aggressive stamped aluminum kind with many sharp edges. Of course the helmet landed face-down with the visor being scratched in a few places. I assumed that I'd have to replace it but remembered I had one of those kits for renewing headlight covers on cars so I gave it a try. Sure enough the scratches came out and visor is as good as new. You can find these kits at any automotive store. The one I used came with pads, rubbing compound and polish. The pads fit on your electric drill, just follow directions. It takes a little time and the kits aren't cheap but they cost way less than a new visor. I didn't mean to hijack the thread but thought it worthwhile since we're talking about visors.

Gary - took your advice and picked up a head light cleaner - used Meguiars to be exact. It took a lot of elbow grease - a steady but slow process and my lens looks as good as new. ALL the scratches and film on the lens came out.

Thanks for your help.

So if I buy a modular 3 helmet will it come with the upgraded shield that doesn't have that film or will I have to change it after?

Thought I posted yesterday on this conversation but it looks like it didn't submit. I bought 2 mod 3s last year. One for me and one for my brother in law. Never noticed a problem until I went to clean the inside of my shield for the first time after a UP trip earlier this year. Sticky stuff that smeared everywhere. After a lot of elbow grease I was able to get it to a point where it was useable but by no means perfect. Thought it must have been something I did to it. I was riding a couple weeks ago with my brother in law and noticed he was falling way behind. He had tried to wipe the inside of his shield and it smeared the same sticky crap everywhere. His smeared to the point where he couldnt see out of it. Ended up having to ride with the screen open. We stopped at a bar and tried every cleaned we could think of to no avail. Even tried a little gasoline on the corner. Didn't touch this stuff. I will try the headlight cleaner next. Pretty disappointing in 300 dollar helmets with very little use.

Tomcat - I know how you feel. I will say after some serious detailing of the lens, I am optimistic I have the problem solve. More than likely I will run this helmet this weekend and can report back if I have any issues. The lens looks as clear as the day I bought it and I am thinking I have what ever coating they had on the lens gone.

I really want to buy a new one, I have the first generation and love it. After hearing and reading some other people's issues I'm not sure if I should spend the money.

Try what I think is called the Mr. Eraser or something like that. Worked like a charm removing what your explaining and even removed some fine scratches.
