curious to hear of any experiences with having your clutches balanced as a complete unit. is it true that most oem's balance parts separate then assemble and do not do any further checks?thanks

I agree.I purchased a new 2009 switchback and at delivery asked my Polaris tech buddy what things I could do other than "normal" maintence to make it
last to 10,000 miles. He gave me one answer, balance the primary. As I pull the cord at 9684 miles I have had no engine/clutch related failures, havent even pulled the head.

POLARIS balances the primary as an assembly, thus the need for aligning the "X" on spyder, cover, etc.

I had the primary balanced on my 2002 800, and they put (8) balance holes into it (so much for factory balancing) after installing the newly balanced primary, you could actually notice the reduced vibration in the handle bars

Sold the sled at 6,400 miles, and still running last I heard, never a crank failure as was somewhat common on those 800's.

SLP balances the primaries as a unit, therefore you'd have to jerk around and align the components again, if re-setting belt to sheave clearance.

INDY Dan balances the individual components, so no need to align the "X" marked spyder, etc. He also sets the belt -to-sheave clearance. One stop shopping

I would HIGHLY recommend balancing the primaries on all sleds to help increase longevity
