yes POLARISDAN it was, atleast got 320 miles of your "perfection" in and was looking forward to so much more of it, and for most trails perfection was an understatement, outside of the injury.... a bad day of snowmobiling is still better than the best day at the shop! was worried she may throw in the towel but we made reservations for next year before we left.

That was one rough trip

Tore down 600 doo and 800 assult this weekend both had light erosion on dome of piston and heavy galling at about the 1 to 2 o'clock position on exhaust side of piston on mag side, assult isolated to mag side only, skidoo same process started on pto side but nowhere as severe. Waiting on carb 800 Polaris yet.

Sounds as bad fuel issue for sure. Tailing off towards exhaust ports is a tell tail sign.

Been reading this thread for the last few days and one thing that keeps coming to my mind is an old story told to me years ago where a some kind of girl dancer came to someones house or cabin to do a “show” she didn’t get her money or got ripped off or didn’t get what she thought she should, so she allegedly poured snow in the gas tanks of the snowmobiles outside, needless to say it was quite a problem, I always wonder this could easily happen to anyone of us because our gas tank caps come off so easily and are quickly accessible to anyone with ill intent

I wonder if there could have been to much ethanol?

The one in our group with 600 doo ordered a alcohol test kit, haven't heard yet results will post as soon as know, 800 assult cylinder assy going for a ride to millennium technologies in Plymouth wi today and the guy with 800 carb Polaris hasn't tore into engine yet. Here is my theory on it and it is in agreeance with what tracker has posted. Where we were staying ran out of fuel on that Saturday and wasn't filled as of yet when we left on Wednesday so gas may not always get refilled as often as some may think. I didn't want to point fingers at any stop insinuating that this place had bad fuel as it wouldn't be fair especially without proof, however the last place they did fill had a metal above ground tank and that evening was exceptionally cold...-13, airspace, metal tanks and temperature swings don't mix. I am only assuming but think they ended up with moisture in fuel or maybe higher alcohol content in fuel due to phase separation because of the reasons stated before. I doubt and I hope it wasn't tampering, however we had a sled stripped about 10 years ago at silver city while we slept, and again I hope it wasn't that as it too would have had to happen while they stopped for a bite to eat and would have been only the three 2 strokes and not the 3 four strokes that would have been tampered with. I will post what we find as I know. As far as my fiancé she finds out results of MRI this morning, still un able to bend knee very far, still swollen, crossing fingers but wont be surprised as it has been almost 2 weeks since accident and very little improvement.

You can test for ethanol very easily. put Water in a Test Tube to a set level. Add the Gas if the Water level increases that's your ethanol.

Years ago they delivered strait Ethanol to the Buffalo Spirit Station north of Merrill. Everything Melted down. There were very few 4 Strokes then so I don't recall what if anything happened to them. This could have been Delivery issue and not the Stations Fault.

longtrack, You are correct on test, its basically a glass tube with graduations on it and you add water and will tell the percentage, 800 efi being put back together, he drained and purged everything, the people at where he brought the cylinder also felt caused by intrusion and not mechanical, skidoo not apart yet but similar failure and nothing on 800 carb yet, now that season over seems to be no hurry, if it had been mine would have gotten to bottom right away. And you are also correct and I too doubt anyones fault as im sure not intentional and that's why I didn't want to name any names especially since we are not completely sure and that's why I thought it was too coincidental. 4 strokes would react differently, maybe produce a little less power but not as sensitive as 2 strokes.
