This was posted to show how easy it is to have a Avalanche in the tree's as will as above the tree line and so people could read the report, degree of slope, snow condition and so on, just becareful if your going west, it doesn't have to be an Avy shute to to have an Avalanche.

I thought the same exact thing when I saw the first photo Brad, but then when I looked at the other photos (can't give you the number as I cannot get to the link right now), the one that shows the incident area from afar, it looks like it might have been a slide path that does not slide often. It looked like the area above tree line where the slide started will sometimes slide down into the area in the first picture and that is why the trees there were much younger, only have grown since the last major slide took everything out.

But good point about trees not always being a safe haven from avalanches. There was one from Cooke a few years back that did slide in a treed area and in a spot that has never known to slide before.

ezra, we know what your getting at even if it did come out harsh. Have fun out there be safe

John, I know they logged the mountain a few years back but I don't know if this was one of the places, but it does look like a slide area, I know its pretty steep, when I 1st heard about it I thought maybe they were in the bowl over the ridge from the avalanche. I know these guy's had beacons the problem is in the tree's theres more things to bounce off of and that kinda sounds like what happened here. There is a rock and cement fire lookout hut on top of the mountain, they hauled the cement and water up by mules, been in that in the summer when a storm came in, its absolutly crazy only did it one time, after that if a storm was coming in it was time to go.
