We have chaterbox and am happy with them. Always use ppt button because of the other guys have music hooked up to theirs and I have mine tured up high because of husband ears.

Have had Collett for the past 3 seasons and are pleased with them. At times (usually terrain and distance between units affect this) you can't have an actual conversation, but then only "whooping" and rudimentary commands are really necessary anyway.

I like my Collett Communicators, I have had one for about 6 years now, and one for 2 years. When I ordered my first one I had 14 guys that ordered with me and only one has sent his in for service for a problem. Other have sent there's back but just for updates to change to the modular style helmets.

The Good:
talk between sleds
Your group can let you know about up coming dangers.
Other groups my have them and you can talk to them for (passing or being passed)
plus lots more.

Cons:
Don't expect to carry on a long conversation. Short and to the point works best. (like stop head, or sharp turn ahead, etc)
distance is not and full 2 mile in hill and trees (But same goes for any radio with out repeaters)

Have the Collett communicators, as well. Have had them for a few years now. Love that if you are riding in an area that has equipped their groomers with beacons, you know there is a groomer coming up at least a mile before you happen upon him. It really allows you lots of time to get out of his way and let him do his job.

I, also, love that I can listen to my iPod through the speakers.

I tried to get my husband to use our second communicator. One ride of "Where do you want to stop and eat?", "I don't care. Where do you want to stop.", "I don't care, where do you want to go?", and he was tearing it off his helmet and tossing it on the side of the trail. Once I caught up to him, I asked him in my sweetest voice, "Honey, what's wrong?" His reply was, "I have to listen to you all the way up here in the truck. I shouldn't have to listen to you on the trail, too!!!".

I would recomend the Collett Snofone as well. We have 8-10 of them in our group and the only probs are the power cords so buy an extra when you get it. I will be riding without this year though. I find it to be to distracting and a general pita. Nothing ruins a perfect carve, climb or sidehill like listening to idle chatter from your buds and we always seem to have one intermittent power cord each ride so you get to listen to the crakle and beeping from it all day. IMHO good for trails not so good for mountains.

I also got the collett platinum 900's. They take awhile to get used to,but once you get them dialed in and keep the mic on your lips they work pretty good. They can save your rear end too. Like groomer around the corner, or watch out for that. It also has the groomer alert beacon in them and it starts beeping if your close to a groomer. The only problem with that though, was when we based out of Hancock they had a groomer next to our hotel and we had to switch frequencies all the time because the groomer apparently never shut off his beacon in the groomer. It drove us nuts until we got out of town. Then we woudl forget to switch back to channel 1.

Had Colletts. They were serviceable. Never cared for the ancient design form of them though. Looked at Chatterbox Slims and the Cardo Systems Scala Rider G4. Much more modern and up to date. I listen to mp3's and NONE reproduce music worth a cr*p so we never used them. Decided to just go back to my Skullcandy earbuds.

That being said, if I chose a communicator today it would be the Chatterbox with the remote PTT. VOX can be a pain in the butt.
