headed Southeast of Watersmeet yesterday and did not see another sled for the first 70 miles
all trails were flat and fast.......

Is there that much snow on Wisconsin side that it is alleviating the need to go to the U.P. or is there some other idea to the light traffic? seems odd? I am counting the days, hours and minutes! hope the conditions hold for rest of season... especially Feb 13th - 18th !!!

Definitely interested in some Gogebic reports. Last I heard the N 2/3rds of the West side of Gogebic had logging with no grooming but do not know if that is accurate. How is the East side trail definitely some road in there I think. Is everyone running the whole lake safely now?

I get a lot of direct reports from the MSA site...here is the report from Gogebic Area Grooming yesterday (https://msasnow.org/trail-reports/gogebic-area-grooming-inc/):

Currently:

  • Trail # 1N: Bergland to White Pine. This trail is being groomed nightly and is reported to be good to very good condition. Wet spots have been taken care of!

  • Trail # 1S: South towards Marenisco from Trail # 8 (Ethelwood Grade). This trail was packed and groomed and in good condition. Wet spots have been filled in – still use caution.

  • Trail # 1South from Marenisco to Wisconsin Border: This trail is being groomed daily and is reported to be in good to very good condition.

  • Trail # 8East from Bergland to Ewen. This trail is being groomed daily and is reported in very good condition.

  • Trail # 8: from Bergland to Wakefield is open and been groomed with two groomers and a drag went down last night. Holes have been filled in – still use caution and thanks to both GAG and GRTA for their efforts to get this fixed for use! Good condition.

  • Trail 102from Bergland to Trail #11, Has been packed down with just the groomer to fill in the wet spots. We will be out daily on this trail to get it back into shape. Good condition.

  • Trail # 13North from Bergland to 101: This trail is being groomed daily and is reported to be in very good condition. Only one semi wet spot but is being filled nightly.

  • Trail # 13south from Bergland to Root Cellar. This section of trail is 90% ridding on East Shore Road. Will advise when this can be opened up.

Hope it stays that way, still rather ride in the U.P.!

I have a place right on Wis. Mi. border so i can ride both pretty easy and when the Wisconsin side has good snow it does take a lot of pressure off Michigan trails. I can also say with the lakes not good it has kept a lot of traffic from Wisconsin coming up via the Cisco chain. Once the chain opens up a lot more traffic comes up to get to Lake Gogebic. Just thing’s I’ve noticed over the years especially this year on Cisco chain.

Ya can't we get rid of douchebuilder?? I was riding with Fuji. Rode again today. Every trail on the map of the western up was perfect!! 700 miles in three days and can count the bumps on one hand!! Absolutely amazing!!

Yeah, but what about 109?

Kidding. Bad joke?

Lots of slush all over the lake, stay on the throttle when not on the hard pack. Trail 13 doesn’t exist this year due to logging. You have to ride east shore road from the slate river all the way north to trail 8 intersection (10 miles ). It sucks. Grader came through last Saturday and pushed the banks back on east shore road, so riding the ditch is not a option. ( big chunks of ice and snow). My hyfax were smoking.

Lots of snow on most of MN also might be a factor on traffic in UP also. Have not had snow like this in years.

I left Twin Lakes at 7:10 a.m. and was at Zik's in Copper Harbor at 9:10 a.m. ordering breakfast. Unbelievable trails for a Saturday. Left Zik's, fueled up, went to Eagle Harbor, was there for a half hour or so, then headed back to Twin Lakes. Arrived back in Twin Lakes at 2:01 p.m. Almost 200 miles on.
