Cordless Chainsaws?

Looking for any experience, advice, on cordless chainsaws? Battery size, bar length, brands? It seems as they are still rapidly improving?

Thanks!

Milwaukee chainsaw is awesome. Now if your going to cut 3 cords then maybe not but it performs well and good battery life.

A few of us have been taking the Dewalt 20v cordless with us in our sxs's. They are freaking awesome. Obviously not for cutting up a fully downed huge tree, but for cutting through downed trees on the trails, they are perfect.

I have the Milwaukee with 2 12AH batteries, you will never touch your small gas powered saw again. My father grew up in the north woods logging. He laughed when i told him i bought one. As soon as he tried it out he told me to go order him one lol. I have a fortune in Milwaukee cordless tools, I have had a few issues with them, but their warranty department has been nothing but awesome, even with a tool that was out of warranty. Makita owns Dolmar so I'm betting they are a good saw too.

I have the Stihl like that was in the JDSP auction and also is a great little saw, carry it on SxS and in car and truck when traveling. One battery charge will get through 2 to 3 6” maples. I believe I have the 12” bar so can be used with 1 hand at times. If you are a Milwaukee tool person that would be what I would get, same as if you have the Dewalt tools going that route wouldn’t be bad either.

I don't know, for the price of a GOOD electric saw and battery(M18 fuel saw is like 450 bucks?

https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200719033_200719033?cm_mmc=Bing-pla&utm_source=Bing_PLA&utm_medium=Logging%20%3E%20Chainsaws&utm_campaign=Milwaukee&utm_content=67180&msclkid=1fbd7c93a9b01c6a938d1cbf8351cb9e&gclid=1fbd7c93a9b01c6a938d1cbf8351cb9e&gclsrc=3p.ds

for that price, I cannot see how its better than a GOOD small compact saw top handle gas saw, for extra fuel I just carry a small quart can and bar oil in like a like container, if I expect lots of cutting!
doesn;t take up much space at all? and
I do a lot of trail work all yr round here, and cutting along old logging roads and on farms, and my rural properties! I was waiting for rp7x to respond. I don't cut wood like I used to, but it seems hard to imagine the Stihl 031 16" and 056 24" saws I have will ever be replaced, unless I forget to run premix gas through them. A sharp blade is still the key to a good cutting saw.

Nicest part on the cordless is the chain stops when you let off the trigger. Excellent for trim work and minor stuff since it's ready to go, just pull the trigger. Can be done with most minor cutting by the time the regular saw is fired up. Mine are the 12" variety. Also handy is the pole saw with 6" blade, great for high or low work.

I have not used the bigger cordless saws that claim to have a duty cycle as good as a regular gas model.

I have a Ryobi 18v pole saw that has worked very well for me. I will be buying a Ryobi chainsaw sometime soon. Staying with Ryobi because after purchasing several of their tools I have the same battery/chargers for all. I think a big positive for electric is if you throw it in the back seat you do not have the gas fumes in your truck!

To do many chords...all you need is 3 battery's...when one wears out plug in another and charge that one...easy peasy....consumer reports tested a bunch of them to see which one cut more logs...look that article up

The way to buy them is when there is a good sale or promotion. I paid $399 for my saw, two 12AH batteries and a rapid charger, That is basically getting the saw and charger for nothing. I also use the large batteries for other tools so its a win win. The average person will never touch his small gas saw ever again, the torque on these things is amazing. I also feel these are much safer when cutting in certain situations, it is nice to not have the noise for communication. Chainsaws are a big ego thing, I get it, but these are very nice to have.

I took it to mean all his gas chain saws are cordless. (sarcasm)?

My electric pole saw is a Homelite. I don't use it a lot but when I do it works great. Homelite used to make popular gas chainsaws but have become a home and garden resource. Their parent company is from China like many of our other tools, appliances, and gadgets. (more sarcasm)
