Cost to summerize 4 stroke sled

Usually I summarize my own sleds. One it is less expensive, but also you have a chance to go through everything with a fine tooth comb. I needed to bring my sled in for warrantee work and asked what they charged for summarizing. Their package included motor oil change, chain case oil change, lube, and fogging. This was for a 3 cylinder motor. The cost quoted me was $240. Is that about the going rate?

I don't fog my Apex motor, just put in some fuel treatment and its been just fine. I normally change the oil in the fall. This works fine if its a fuel injected model. If it has carbs you may still have to clean them in the fall unless you have them drained for the summer. This gasoline today just doesn't last very long.

Never fogged mine. I think oil change/filter and check everything out was about $150-175.00, don't remember.

When I had my 08 Apex LTX, I had the dealer take care of everything. His cost was $200. To me that was cheap maintenance.
I sold it 3 weeks ago with 8,600 trouble free miles.

Guys, please don't forget your chain case oil and tension. I'm not saying it's part of summarizing but just want folks to keep up with that.

Good point, Lenny. I overlooked mine this year and the chain was ratcheting on my second trip out. Had to baby it all day and it still had me worried.

$240 sounds about right for our area. Maybe a couple hours of labor and most are using synthetic oils now so that kicks up the price a bit. I had a Pre-season done on mine last fall and they covered most everything that is mentioned above except for the oil change for around $175.

Easy adjustment on Apex need 10mm & 12mm open or box end wrench if I recall tighten adjustment bolt then back off 1/4 to1/12 turn.

Actually when checking a lot of the new secondaries especially on Yamaha's they have a certain amount of play in the secondary so you cannot accurately inspect it that way momoney. You need to check it by loosening the lock nut. The mechanical reverse on 4 strokes have play in them from the factory for meshing reasons (tolerance). So please guys with Yamaha 4 strokes do not check it through play in your secondary:)

The machine I was speaking to is fuel injected, so no carbs. Did include the cost of a chain case change (say that fast 3x's). This is the fox valley, WI area. So seems about right. Maybe a tad high. For the $150 in labor, I will do it myself.

What is sad, never had it cleaned up this early. The good news, going fishing:). Season has changed for me.

This is all very useful information. Can anyone give a good estimate on summarization for a two stroke? (Polaris 800 ES AXYS )

Thanks

Very good info Kip! This is also true on other than Yami brands also. Had my 4 stroke to my dealer for full pre season service. Change engine oil and filter, service/adjust chaincase, and clutches. Full check over and grease all. All syn oil, lubes used, and new filter included around $200. They do a very good job. I didn't have the time to do it myself at the time I wanted it done. Very fare price in my opinion, with all the supplies included.
