Not knowing your entire situation but from my experience, if you are married you would normally file a joint return in which yes you claim you, your wife, and your daughter (she can be claimed for 2010 even if she was born at 11:59 PM on 12/31/2010) so you would claim 3 deductions. I can not think of a reason to file separate when married and only one of you works. I have been using TAXACT for 5 or 6 years and it works great. Check their website for free on line tax preparation software. Also check the Turbo-Tax website as well. Good luck.

You get what you pay for. I have a CPA who is worth every dollar at tax time. He gets to do what he does best and I do what I do best and no one goes to jail. Spending time with a guy named Bubba is not worth tax mistakes done by myself.
Beside we are snowmobilers, not known for making good money decisions according to the general populace.

Yes. You can claim both as dependents. As long your wife did not receive any income for the year, including unemployment. You should also make sure you update your deductions on your payroll to three. This will decrease the amount of taxes taken out each pay period.

Any of the tax programs will answer these questions for you (turbo tax, tax cut, probably others). You can either try using more than one of them because they don't charge you until it's time to file. If you have a simple return, some don't charge you regardless.

You can claim an exemption for your spouse only if you are married. Your spouse is never considered your dependent for tax purposes, but you can get an exemption. I believe you can alter your exemptions during the tax yr as well and that will affect your take home pay.

The wife and I the other night, 5 hours going through reciepts, it sucks but the cpa loves it when its time to file. The cpa says the more to claim, the more you'll get back or less to pay in, it was a good year. Shes the best 200 bucks I spend. ;)
