I have always thought the prices are too high for damaged items on any site. I always felt if I could not sell something, crash it and it would sell. You can monitor prices on Crashedtoys to see if you agree.

I tried, they always up the prices just before the closing bell. I never did buy anything as prices were close to wholesale with no damages. you are always taking a chance when something is crashed ,just my .02worth

From what ive seen from looking at the sleds and Harleys they sell....you could buy a running bike or sled for darn near what they get for a wrecked one. Not sure who they are selling to because I know quite few guys who are parts sellers and wont touch their stuff. Just my opinion.

I was just at the white star auction(snowmobileauction) on Oct. 3rd and stuff was going cheap! I was there to sell so wasn't too happy about driving 600 miles to get there. However they guys working the auction said that November is usually alot busier and brings more buyers and sellers so the price usually goes up a little. Starting this month the seller is charged a 10% fee on top of there bid so that maybe helping keep the bids lower also.

That's not going to keep the bids lower, that just makes crashedtoys an extra 10%!! What a rip.

Chad been looking and dealing there for years. YOU MUST KNOW YOUR CRAP!!! usually sleds that end up there have something wrong, and a lot are last years rentals also. And yea good prices, (for the buyer) Nov goes up a little all the way till March. Usually Feb and March are the times to sell. The 10% thing just started, on the other side of it the seller only pays a flat $25 if item sells over $100 so the seller doesn't pay the comission. They gotta make there money also. (Not plugging them here) just take a compresion gauge with you and know what you are looking at and go early. I have bought probably 5 sleds there over the years. Sold almost everone I have ever sold there. (when I am done with a sled it looks great if not new but always has upwards of 10,000++ miles on it) so it is hard to sell that at home. By the way are you Jerry's friend from J & J??

I dont want to offend anyone here and that know your crap comment was not directed at you chad. It is just so many times I have seen a guy that buys a year old sled for $2000-$3000 less then you can find anywhere else and then complains when he gets it home that the motor is blown..crank is gone...tunnel is tweeked and so on and so on. As I said those sleds are there for a reason. Some times it is cases like mine where I just don't want to deal with trying to sell it from home. I assume cases like you are a lot of rentals that need to go away. As long as you know what you are looking for and how much it cost to fix or replace you can walk away with some good deals there. it is an auction, don't forget that.

Well aware of what an auction is as I've grown up at them. Was just a bit disappointed that the folks I spoke with gave all kinds of advice on Saturday after things didn't sell rather than giving it on the phone Thursday before I drove 600 miles to get there. I'm not bad mouthing them by any means, I may try it again in November if I have alot of used stuff. I'm also aware theres alot of hi mile rental sleds get brought there but my stuff was all trade in's that were for the most part pretty clean nicely equipped sleds. And all there workers in the yard were very nice guys, they run a nice AND QUICK show.

Are you talking about J&J Sales? In Ohio I think? I've talked with them a couple times and did some trading last winter.

Times are tough in the old Northwoods, lots of stay at home bargains if you have $CASH$ !! Better off knowing the history of the sled or if it sat half sumerged in a swail since march without fuel conditioner in it! Auctions can be good deal if you know what to look for and know the market.Lots of NO-NAME Dealers buy there and sell there!Snowing as I post!!

Chad, no the guy I am refering to is from Stevensivlle MI. He has a buddy that runs a rental/ snowmobile sales somewhere on the west side of the upper. I never really asked him who or where. I just know he brings his stuff to the auction to get rid of it before his new comes in. When you said about being from there I thought it was you.

Chad,

I am confused on the 10% thing at Whitestar.

Here is what thier website says about thier fees.

"You can sell your items---absolutely NO SELLING COMMISSION FEES

on items selling for over $100.00. You only pay a $25.00 entry fee per item. That's it !!

On items selling for under $100.00, we do not charge the entry fee

and you only pay a 20% selling commission fee."

The 10% is buyers premium. The buyer pays the commission not the seller, unless it is under $100 and then both pay a commission. I.e. sled sells for $2500. Seller pays $25 buyer pays $2750 plus Michigan sales tax. Need to know exactly what you want to spend and adjust your bid accordingly. On the other hand take a helmet. is sells for $20. Seller pays $2 buyer pays $21 plus Michigan sales tax.

I don't go to auctions any more that have started charging a % to purchase something. The seller has no way of getting what his unit is worth if the buyer has to pay 10%. (i.e. $5000 sled=$500 buyers fee not including sales tax and reg. on top of that)
