Crooked Creek Guest Ranch - Dubois, WY

Just wondering if anybody has ever stayed at the Crooked Creek Guest Ranch in Dubois, WY.? I've been to Togwotee several times but was thinking about changing it up a bit. I'm not a Slednecks rider by any means but I do like to climb some decent hills. A few questions I have: 1.) What's the approx. elevation? 2.) Do you have to drive a long way from the lodge to get to good riding (climbing areas)? 3.) Are snow conditions similar to that of the Togwotee area?

Our group loves the terrain around the Togwotee area (some of which is waaaay over our heads) but we're just Just looking for something different. My bigest fear would be to get there and have to spend half the day finding challenging areas and/or not having adequate snow. Thinking about heading out the last week of February.

Thanks to all!!!

We have ridden from Togwotee to Crooked Creek a few times.
You will end up spending quite a bit of time riding the trail out of Crooked Creek to get to the fun play areas and real good snow.
I'm not sure of the elevation but each time we have rode to Crooked Creek there was very little snow (bare spots) near the lodge when there was a lot of snow up around Togwotee.
I would not stay there because I dont want to ride trail 20-30 miles each way to get to really good riding.

Thanks for the info. What time of year were you there? Also, when you say "really good riding," are you talking Sledneck style? I don't know what time of year the photos on their web site were taken but there looks to be quite a bit of snow there. Thanks again!

Late March and just before Christmas. Each time running across a lot of gravel and grass down by Crooked Creek to get to the lodge. Riding rental sleds from Togwotee so didn't worry about it.

I've stayed there there and like Togwotee it pays to get a guide (get Nick). I would say with the guide we did a ride a bit more trails to get away from the cabins but the payoff was that we saw very few other riders (like Tog.) and didn't have to ride through lots of tracked up areas (like Tog).
I still prefer Togwotee ML by a hair mainly due to the winter classic pkg plus the fact that there seems to be more technical riding area near TML. If Crooked Creek did some sort of "Winter package" with food/drinks thats were I would stay, there is just so many less people down that way.
Let me know if you have any specific question.

I have been there. Trail riders would love it. It is a bit of a way to ride to the good stuff. Lava mtn. Is much closer to the good stuff but can be a hassle to get out of there with low snow. Togwotee is still the place to stay unless you have the big bucks to stay at Brooks Lake and get to be guided by Skinner Bell. :)

I have stayed at CCR maybe 3 or 4 times .....And I have stayed at Tog.Lava also ....By far CCR is the nicest and best people to stay with ...Food is good ....I would say a 10 to 15 Minute Ride to get to some nice hills and meadows ....I think Jan , Feb and March would be the best time to stay at CCR .........We will be at CCR the week of feb 21

Been to Brooks Lake Lodge many times. We like to head across the lake then to the east for some great riding, also. I don't mind if I have to take the trail for 15 minutes to get where I'm going or even for a half hour for that matter...I'm on a snowmobile and not working, LOL!!! Going to go ahead and make reservations at CCR and give it a try...I think we'll have a great time. Thanks to all who replied!!!!!

CC is a great place, price is right in there with everybody else. You can ride out from there and hit good snow or trailer up to togg and dump the sleds, thats what we usually do. You can ride out from there to togg but its at least a 45 mn to hour ride depending on the trails. You cant lose staying there, great food and bar. Leea is a super host and if you need a guide or doo parts Nick is there with a full shop to help you out if you have problems.

Booney think Deep snow out here!!!!

Been there done that. Just go to Togwotee. Fine for trail riders and wanna by boon dockers who are just getting their ears wet. Why waste an hour plus out and back each day if you drove 25 hours out. It's all about value. Been to CC once, Lava 3 times, Togwotee 8 times. Value and cost are not the same thing.

Will be riding Alpine Feb 7-15. Will try to confirm the Bull Moose rumor. Although, the wife may have a problem with my research.
