Crossing lift bridge on atv's

Can you cross the Houghton lift bridge without a police escort? Coming up to ride the Keweenaw in a month and a half and wanting to know what the procedure is or just trailer the atv's across the bridge. Thanks!

You need an escort. Do it, when else are you going to be able to get a police escort? :)

There are no set times. You just call and let them know and they will come to do it. To cross from Houghton to Hancock, you call 482-0055, to cross from Hancock to Houghton you call 482-3102. All of this info is also on the Keweenaw ATV Club map that you can get from the Convention and Visitors Bureau. 337-4579

Here is a link to the City of Houghton for information on the bridge atv crossing times. Personally, I think I would trailer over, you never know how the ride will go with any given time line. Quite good, not to mention the dangers involved. It is a very busy bridge, with no easy on/off for an ATV/SxS. I would be pretty afraid to do it without escort, even in our SxS.
