We are making our usual trip for NYE to the cabin. Has anybody ridden either the trails or the lakes there recently? Any info would be great, otherwise, fishing and spearing it is!!

Lakes are not frozen in the middle, slush everywhere where it is froze, no snow on trail, rain killed the little we had, water in ditches, yuk

I took a quick jaunt from Rush Lake to Moonlight Square and the snow on the lakes was barely enough to keep the slides lubricated. The trail along 16 in the ditch was pretty good for the lack of snow. Later today I may run to Breezy Point and see how the woods trails are.

Ideal Sno Pros report a fresh 5 to 7 inches of powder received yesterday, and will be grooming all week. The lakes are not staked yet, but should be safe enough for sleds. I took Cross and Rush without issue, and we sawed through 16 inches of ice on Rush for put up the darkhouse. Looks to be a great weekend for riding the area!!

Some friends were up riding Crosslake, Emily, Breezy Point areas and reported surprisingly good conditions. Add another 6 inches this week and all should be pretty good. I think all the lakes should be staked and safe by now.

A week out from our ride at Deerwood wondering how the trails are holding up, if there is enough base to withstand the warm up

just got back from Crosslake again, and the trails took a beating after the temps rose into the teens, they were awesome Friday into Saturday, then were beat to **** about 2 pm, and tons of traffic, the warm temps are gonna kill the snow on the trails, corners were very thin, and lots of ice showing, hope the weather people are wrong, it was below zero both nights.

Everything is solid ice. Have not seen a groomer out for quite sometime. Really nothing to groom. Even the woods is almost solid enough to Fat Bike boondock and not break through. Area needs a solid 6"++ to straighten things out.
True depressing. I look outside and it looks great. Nice & white, decent snowbanks, and good coverage. But it's all solid ice.

The Ideal Sno Pros have a page on Facebook and do a great job of posting grooming updates. They were out on Wednesday grooming their area and it looked pretty good. Remember, it is Crosslake Winterfest this weekend, so there may be a lot of traffic, but fun to ride to all the events. I'm staying home, but will definitely be up next weekend when the forecasted 5-8 inches of new snow falls. Enjoy!!

They got 4 inches on Tuesday, BTW.

Update February 4th

The groomers have been out trying to deal with what they have.

South and west of Nisswa is pretty lean. Lots of ice & snirt. Pillsbury is ridable, but pretty much total snirt. I turned around and did not continue.
SnowWay1 south have not been groomed. At least the area I explored.

North & east of Nisswa is pretty decent. All of the clubs have been doing a fantastic job. Even with the major melt down Breezy Point, CrossLake, and Emily areas are surprisingly nice.

You will encounter some thin, icy, and pretty choppy areas. But over all trails north & east of Nisswa are is good condition. With these cooler conditions, they should hold up for quite some time.
Come on up & ride!

Come on up and ride. Image courtesy of Ideal SnoPros 2/7/17.
The Ideal SnoPros, Emily SnowBirds, Merrifield Marathons, and all of the clubs have been doing a fantastic job of keeping things cleaned up.

Best conditions are north/east of Nisswa. Things are still quite skinny to the south/west.

Be sure to be polite to the trails when things warm up a little. Thanks.

Thanks for the update SnowFish. Appreciate your last sentence and wish a few people would heed that advice so others can enjoy more miles.

X2 - Rode with a guy this weekend that I will never again - blew out EVERY SINGLE CORNER, to the point that guys in our group were calling him out on it and to knock it off.

Ok, I'm ready for the comments from the other side, go for it......
