Dead Trail Cams

Hi John,

I noticed that the link to the Minocqua web cams is completely missing from the map. Was this removed permanently?

Yep, there were a handful of cams that had not been updated in some time and no new link to them could be found, so they were deleted. This happens to a few cams every season. Aaron did find new links to old cams in lots of cases though.

I noticed you discussed the hurly cam. Is this the Iron Nugget? I have not been able to access that for months. Their web page also does not produce the working cam. Is there some other one in hurley?

I am disappointed to see the Minocqua cams go bye bye. I thought they were working very well. The one was at Slo's Pub on Big Arbor Vitea Lake and the other was looking out over the 51 bridge. The one at Slo's, you could click their link and go to a live version on their website. Clicking through the NCN, it took a snapshot of the current frame.

You're right kevinj

I am working on getting the NCN page for Minocqua right now.

Sorry for the mix up.

Too bad all we have to worry about is webcams instead of what trail to take next. Thanks John. I am thinking of writing Ma Nature a letter, as I am sure most of us are.

Hi catt,

Yes, the Hurley cam is coming from The Iron Nugget. The Iron Nugget's page is updating for me, as is the page on here now that the links were updated. This cam is different from almost all of the others in that it is a java applet, and streams live video. Is java working on your pc? Is it enabled, or have you disabled java in your browser?

Point your browser here: http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp, to see if java is setup properly on your pc.

I did a search on "my computer" and found nothing that matched "java". What version do I need to install?

After advising you to install & enable Java, I'd be remiss if I didn't pass this tidbit along as well:

Oracle has issued patches today, but the warning from DHS persists. If you haven't already done so, please install the latest patches!

Plenty of dead cams again this year. Hope they fire them up Dec. 1st.

I would like to thank "Camp Womo" for keeping their camera going. (You guys are my connection to what's going on in the Peacock/Sable/Irons area).

Whitefawn is back. New site but used same location and filename for the main cam. Adding a second soon to hte general store that will have light which will make it viewable at night.
