det light comes on above 7000 rpm

This is for a buddy. Got a 05 polaris 800 switchback. DET light comes on above 7000 rpm. It flashes only above 7000 rpm or at around 65 mph. He backs off down to 6500 rpm then it shuts off. Sled runs strong all the way to the top end w/ no problems. The manual says bad fuel, wrong jet size or exhaust modification. It can't be any of those cause he has new gas no exhaust mods and stock jets. The sled was sunk last year, tore down rebuilt. It was 15 degrees or colder when the sled was run.

Whats the proper plug for that sled? He's running NGK BPR9ES now.

I believe that sled requires Champion RN57YCC and likes them. Are you using premium gas with the key set to the premium position and regular with key in reg position also?

I had this issue going on with my wife's 2004 XCSP 700. I had 92 octane Holiday Station gas in it and the Temp/DET light would flash 8 times above 7000 RPM. I took it out on the lake yesterday and rode it with the key switch on Reg gas and the light went away. This tells me never to buy premium gas at Holiday again. Crappy gas!
