Diesel fuel in an 800 E-Tec

Not sure if I am missing something or not, but while I was filling up my sled with gas on Sunday in Bergland, another fellow sledder came in and filled up his 800 E-Tec with diesel fuel. You could clearly smell the diesel fuel and see the smoke coming out of the sled as he drove off. I'm sure that can't be to good for that sled.

I'm with Whitedust!

You probably should have yelled: "Hey! dude! That's Diesel you're putting in there"
and if they looked at you like you were stupid or something,... then,.. watched him
fill it up. Then watch him Blow it up. Then help him tow it back to the station for his
Daddy to come and pick him up!

Poor sled. Can't fix stupid.

:(

Eeeeeeeeek. Thats a mistake. Don't think it would hurt it, but she had to running poor and smoking like a sun of a gun. Doesnt diesel fuel burn cooler than regular fuel? Im sure thats not the first time this has happend haha

Had a friend putting diesel in his sled before we gave him a head slap. We siphoned out what we could from his tank, topped him off with gasoline and the sled was just fine for the years he had it. Of course he did not start it and draw any pure diesel into the carbs so a little percentage of oil would never hurt the machine. Now fast forward to a sophisticated computer controlled DI system blasting down the trail I think that guys experience may be a little different.

and you did not fallow him (from a distance) to see how far he would make it?

A buddy did this at Togwottee with his 06' Summit. Same thing as above...the shop guys siphoned as much out as possible and topped it off with Premium. Said it happens more than you would think out there. Sled has been trouble free...this was a couple years ago.

Diesel should not burn down a gas motor, it will just run like crap and smoke. Like others said, just empty it top off with fresh fuel and it will clean up shortly after.

If there was at least half gas, it should burn with a lot of smoke and rough... probably no damage. If there wasn't much gas mixed in, it will probably shut off and put up error codes galore.

I doubt it will ruin it.

Running gasoline in a diesel would probably destroy the diesel though.

Ya know, those darn Candians are sneeky, that might be a test vechicle in disguise?! A Duetz diesel, pumping out 125 hp with 500#'s of torque! Could you imagine?!

Back in the olden days my younger brother had a 1980 Yamaha SRX and would mix avgas with premium at a 50/50 ratio. One night we were on a poker run in NW MN and his sled ran good when we got it running but when he shut it off it would take forever to start, I think we spent about 30-40 minutes at one resort starting it and when it would start it smoked so bad you could not even see the sled. It was about 20 below and we didn't know what was wrong. The next day it wouldn't start and we checked the fuel, instead of avgas they gave him jet fuel. We siphoned the tank, put regular in it, and it ran just fine for a few more years.
