Dimming lights-99' XC 700

Wondering if anybody has had this problem. I have a Polaris 99' XC SP 700. Went for a ride, and on the way home, my lights dimmed (headlight, taillight, speedo, tach, everything). It only lasted about 10 seconds, than they worked fine again. The sled still ran fine, but don't want to have to deal with that problem on a longer ride at nightfall. Maybe a bad connection, or the connections need to be sanded down a bit? Or maybe the voltage regulator?

Also, if it is the VR, I heard it's best to replace with an OEM rather than aftermarket-lots of problems with the aftermarkets I heard.

Thoughts??

Any help is appreciated!!

Thanks

Indy 500 - did you replace it with a Polaris VR or an aftermarket one? I think the one on my Fusion is messed up also, and I'm surprised by how much the Polaris one costs.

i put on a polaris voltage regulator that was used. $25. if i was smarter i'd buy a an aftermarket one but i needed one asap so i went with a used one from a dealer. it was off a sled that had low miles and was in a crash. i also changed the voltage regulator in my 99 indy 500 due to the lights and handwarmers going out and it's run fine since

It's looking like $160+ for the one for the Fusion. Not sure why it costs so much. I found a used one on ebay, but I'm a little nervous to replace a part that has since been redesigned with one that the old style part. Plus the new one is to be installed in an easier to get to place than the old one.

I've been tempted to dump this Fusion and buy another edge. I didn't have any problems with that until I crashed it! And with the edge chassis, when you needed to work on something, it was all sitting out there in the open! Everything on the Fusion is buried.

My guess is that the regulator costs more because of the digital gauge. But that's just a guess.
