What would you do? We have a trip planned for the first part of next week leaving Sunday to head to cable wi. But the weather man is saying that there won’t be a high above 0 the entire time were supposed to be there. But I’m getting reports from friends that are coming back that the trails are in some of the best shape they have ever seen. But we can re-schedule for the following week when there is some warmer temps predicted. But I think my thumb is going to fall off if it doesn’t get to squeeze a trigger soon!! But its border line insanely dangerous to go riding with a predicted high of -15. But I cant take it any more my miles are at 0. But were taking the wives and there is nothing worse than a cold angry wife on a trip! But I like Ams oil! But I like Sea And Snow. But 2stroke But 4 Stroke . But………But……..But………… AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEE!

I think I need to seek some professional help.

(By the way we already re-scheduled for next week)

Once you said the wives were going, it's a no brainer. Reschedule for next week, as you did. We have the snow we need but it's been so cold traffic has been little to none. In addition, looking at John's forecast graphic today, we really have no freshening snows, which we could use, at least through the 10 day and the 16 day doesn't sound much better for my area. Why do we love this sport so much again? ;)

X2.... Wives will be a problem in those temps did that back in 90s & had to head home after day 2 in UP! My wife's butt was sooooo red & cold I was worried she would go hypothermic so got back to motel & wrapped her in bunch of blankets for like 2 hours & she stayed in bed till dinner time. With that said temps will moderate by Wednesday so maybe keep wives grounded til then make it a guys thing till warms up. For me my face always get frost bit below -15 big black circles on upper cheek bones but I'm used to it.:)

I guess I'm spoiled......I'd say go. Those temps wouldn't stop me or my wife. Just gotta dress for it, maybe take more stops and maybe put in fewer miles. So far this is the best winter we've had in several years. Last year at this time we were crying about the warmth and not having any snow. Strike while the iron is hot (or cold, in this case).

Funny this thread came up. The wife and I were just talking this morning about the temps we used to ride in when we were in our 30's. We had no problem riding in -20° and even once or twice -25°. Would not do it now, but when we were younger we wanted the miles and did anything to get them.

Key here is you have an alternative date where it is predicted to be warmer. We all need to remember that there is dangers if things go wrong in temps that cold. Not to mention that if the wife has fun she will be more likely to be happy, but if they are cold it tends to sour the trip...who can blame them for that? So go with the warmer and keep the fun in the picture. If it was you and the guys.....start the engines....but it is not.

On a side note with the super cold coming, everyone riding should check their safety packs twice to be sure you have good fire starting materials, and extra batteries for a cell phone...cheap insurance for ride in the powder. Have fun but be safe.

I think back about 5 years ago, when we were having -15 degrees and 30 mph winds and I took my wife and my daughter out into the snow...they suited up in the truck and rode and had fun but leaving the truck for 1/2 hour made it crank slowly to start and took forever to warm up...and like someone else said, I wouldn't do that today.

Call me a wuss, but I won't do it. I feel I'm as diehard as anyone, but not gonna happen with those temps. Not to mention....happy wife, happy life. I just don't see a wife being happy outside at -20!!!

We just got back from riding in those minus 16 temps in St. Germain,WI. Rode Dec 31 til Jan3. My finger tips were frozen, as were my wife's, and 17 yr old son. We had to make more stops to warm up, and that cut in to our miles. All in All, 444 miles in 3.5 days of riding. Dress very,very warm. My fingers were the only thing that got cold in those temps. Once you hit the lakes, you will feel the cold. But in the twisties wasn't too horribly bad.

Get a pair of those new shorter gauntlets. I just got a pair for each sled this year and tried them out yesterday and had to turn both the hand warmers and thumb warmer down to the lowest setting. They worked great. It does make reaching for the brake a bit tougher, but I'm going to start using thinner gloves with them for better control. You don't need much of a glove with the gauntlets and they don't look too bad.

I love gauntlets when fighting the cold. Good gear makes the ride better on any brand today.

There are many newer sleds that are cold to ride with their 4" windshields.

I here you with those short windshields. They look cool but the wind does hit you across the shoulders.

Yup made the rite call backing off a week. -22 rite now hear at home. went to start the truck to go to work and it wouldn't crank this morning. Would of needed to install a block heater on the Yamaha to get it to crank this cold. o well a little bit of fresh snow and warmer temps await us next week. Now I need to figure out how to get to work to day! I'm self employed and my boss is an a-hole;)

Anyone contemplating doing a ride in the subzero temps, should get and use the Gauntlets. Switch from heavily padded gloves to a good light glove, with combination of handwarmers, the cold hand thing goes away completely.

And yes, I laugh at those mini windshields every time I see one on a sled. Function over beauty any day of the week and twice on sunday.
