Do you like DISH TV?

I'm sick of Direct TV and are seriously considering DISH as our options are limited.

Do you like DISH and why? Do you hate DISH and why?

Any and all opinions are welcome!

Had Dish before Direct, Dish had less of the channels we want in the mid package. So Dish was more expensive for the channels we wanted. We had a problem with the box and it was alot of hassle to get it replaced, they wanted us to pay for new box, because we owned it, it was not leased. But then when we ended our subscription, they wanted the boxes back. I'm like what's with that. We have alot of reception issues with both satellite systems. We are going to go with cable when our Direct contract is over. If my only choices were the two, I would stay with Direct. Although I've issues with Direct with getting HD receivers, so that combined with reception issues we're going to cable.

direct tv is the only way to go..15 years..never an issue..plus it the only football package

With Direct TV, we live in NW WI but are in a minneapolis "zone" or something to that effect. So all the local channels we get are Minneapolis. So we miss many Packers games when the Viqueens are on at the same time. With Dish we'd get Packer games.

That would settle it for me.

I've had dish for over 5 years now and like it,they also give free hd ,suprised that it takes a really bad storm to knock out,as always have picture in smaller storms, they also give alot of free previews and movies every month, each company has some different channels in their package make sure you look over to find your favorite channels, the only bad thing is all the dish stuff can add up and turn you to a tv junkie

I don't think u need blazing fast but I don't think u can have it plugged in to the old rotary phone . I have pretty fast internet . I know on my phone even when only getting 2g I can stream from the TV app

I have the slowest speed, dry loop only no dail tone. 29.99 with taxes frontier. I have apple tv and works fine with slow internet speed.

I was just dealing with that on the opposite. Had pack but wanted Vikes. Live in MN but near Lacrosse WI. After the third call I made I told tech support that my zip code was 55904, rochester mn for the service area but my billing address was the same. She put 55904 in her computer and in 5 mins had rochester local stations and my Vikes!! It can be done! I have been with directv for 8 years now. Def my cheapest option....

I have had both Direct TV and Dish over the years and found they are both pretty much the same as far as picture quality/reliability and service. Both satellite providers will lose reception in bad storms, but this is not all that frequent. Even their prices are similar. If you want to go satellite, pick the one that provides the channel package that best suits you. If you want all NFL games, you need to chose Direct TV.

Up until a few months ago I had Dish at the cabin and Comcast TV/Internet at home in the Twin Cities. I cut Comcast TV this past summer and now only have internet streaming and HDTV broadcast. The problem is I like to watch certain TV channels like ESPN and you need an active tv subscription to stream it..... This begs the question of why would I need to stream it if I had an active tv subscription to it? So for now, I still have the Dish at the cabin to allow me to stream ESPN3 and a couple other subscription channels. (I tried the Sling channel for ESPN, TBS etc..but was not happy with the streaming quality from this channel)

A lot of people are cutting the chord these days and I think this will be a huge problem for satellite/tv providers. I'm sure some day all tv will be streamed. It would be nice if these networks would offer streaming subscriptions (ala-cart) that way you only pay for channels that you want...even at $5/month for each of these channels, it would still be much cheaper for me.

DISH over DIRECT

We've had both services and prefer DISH. We also have DIRECT at work and whenever it rains, snows, or the wind pucks up, we lose our service. At home the signal was lost constantly with DIRECT. We were also not happy with the customer service at DIRECT. Since going back to DISH the main control head went bad so I called customer service and had a new unit the next day. We were guilty of not paying attention to the movie channels and that ads up quick after the discount stage. Once we had that taken care of the monthly cost is manageable.

I currently have DirecTV. Love the customer service with it. Not happy with the AT&T merger since AT&T service is horrible in my area. I truly like Charter Cable the best. Their Internet screams fast and reliable. Charter just came down my street and will be hooking up to that soon.

All I know is that you people with cabins can subscribe to Directv at home, add an extra receiver and take it to your cabin, find a dish on Ebay, and wa-lah!

We are in a rural'ish area. Charter box is 1/2 mile from our house and they won't lay the cord to connect the houses on our street otherwise I'd have Charter is only for their rippin' fast Inet.

We ended up staying with Direct. DISH wasn't competitive with Direct and we got some smoking deals for coming back. And after the deals run out in 12 months, the price is still lower than DISH.

I do need to look into a streaming TV service though!
