Does the Marquette area give a cold shoulder to snowmobilers?

I have been hearing this from multiple people lately about Marquette, that they do not like or do not care to have snowmobilers come through their community. What have you heard?

clarify

Are we talking about Marquette county, WI or Marquette (city) MI? Marquette doesn't allow snowmobilers in city limits but the trails are groomed and awesome so I have no idea what's being discussed here.

Roger that famousguy. You're right, the trails were AMAZING in MQT area this weekend. It was an absolute zoo and my not-trail-friendly sled loved it all the same. Went 8 east to Mqt, 14 to Big Bay and had a JJ burger at the lumberjack. Took 14-310-5 back to Ishpeming and really other than a few spots the trails were awesome considering the amount of sleds we were seeing.

I am talking about Marquette MI. Sorry. I am just asking because that sculpture park on Trail 417 Lakenenland is getting a lot of flak from the Chocolay TWP. I was just wondering if it is because he is catering to the snowmobilers.

No it's because they're a greedy nimby town that's mad his park is free and they aren't getting their usual slice of the pie. The issue is a permit he was granted for a bandshell. They rescinded and claimed it was erroneous; but they can't do that so... too effin bad Chocolay!

Raceinsnow, what trail were you on? We have many accounts (including my family) of great condition MQT county trails this past weekend. Groomer was out as usual. Were you out later in the day perhaps? Sunday I was out at 8 AM, didn't see anyone had fresh dusting on the trails and had a great time....

Marquette is not nearly as dependent upon sledders and does alright in the winter without the throng of sledders that Munising and other towns have. Conventions, lots of college kid guesting, and all sorts of basketball, baseball, and hockey tournaments...pack the place all winter long. While there are trails there, and they are groomed, you won't find the numbers of sledders you find in other areas of the U.P.

It is a shame, but I guess that is just the way they want it. It is the county seat, college town, and there are a bunch of the people there that would rather see skiers than sledders.

As far as the trails are concerned, Saturday lots of the trails were pretty hooped up by late afternoon. There were throngs of sledders out...in the Big Bay area at least and it took a toll on them... of course not in all areas, but the hardest hit were pretty bumpy.

Yeah we made the mistake of going to Munising from Marquette and it was bad. I heard from Gwinn to Republic was great on Saturday.

That area has more snow than the kew. 38 inches most in the Upper.

Mountains have tons of snow and road shoulders are beginning to get hard to climb.

Deer are having a hard time in some areas...looks like it will be a hard one for them and take the numbers even lower than they were.

It is known world wide that Marquette (city) and Chocolat twps. do not like snowmobilers as a whole. I stay clear of there. The Holiday Inn is the only one who will welcome you in Marquette from my experience there.

Yes, its well known like stated above that Marquette does not like snowmobiles at all. There is no access to any in town businesses, no signs for gas stations, no signs for bars, poorly marked, etc etc. you can pass by on the trail but thats about it, don't plan on stopping there. The town is big enough to support a Lowes, Menards, Target, etc etc, so they probably dont need the additional business from sledders like the other small towns do.(of course this is no excuse).

Go west! Here in Ontonagon Co. there are many of us to make your trip pleasant and the trails are groomed daily in most case.
