Doo's eco mode on 900 - great idea for kids

We were up north of Eagle River this weekend with the family. One of my relatives has a Doo 900. The eco mode is an incredible idea - my 9 year old has outgrown the 120 they have up there but was able to ride all around a small lake for 3 days on a Doo 900 because the eco mode keeps the acceleration and the top end down to something he could manage. Without that there's no way he could be on full size sled. That's a probably a feature most don't care about but it really made the sled youth-friendly. They should all have something like that...

Agreed. I have the 1200 and it came with a "learning" FOB. With that feature, top speed and acceleration can be limited. Awesome for my 11 and 13-year-old sons. SO glad we didn't have that technology when I was that age.

Right you are Hoosier. It's all about family enjoyment. Many advantages to the electronic throttle, too many to list. The eco mode is really handy as to loading, unloading, and getting out of bad places, such as being stuck. As mentioned, the "learning fob"(the green one) is one of the best, as you can select the sleds performance level for the different youths ability. Some just don't like the ETC, and it is a learning curve. But once you understand it, and how it preforms, you can do things that other wise you could not do. Keep those youngsters riding!!!!!!!!!! The memories are so precious!!!

On the 900 at least, it's just a button. My concern is that he'd figure it out. At his age I don't think he was looking for more power but I could see him thinking he could use it when he's 11 or 13, like you said. He really looks up to his Grandpa, who owns the machine, and I don't think he would want to take any chances on messing with his machine. Yet at least.

It's a ton of fun. I have twin 6 year olds too, and they loved the 120. One would ride that, and I'd follow with the other sitting in front of me, and then they'd switch when their little hands hurt from the throttle pull...

I'm not a doo guy, but it was cool to ride the 900 with one of my kids sitting in front of me - it's so quiet we could easily talk back and forth.

Hoosier; does Grandpa have the "green" learning fob??? With this "green" fob (DESS plug) you can program in the performance range you want, and speed not to exceed. Then the rocker switch on the sled will not change your programed perimeters. You can change as the youth ability to ride develops further. A real handy way of protection for the kids. Check into it, and enjoy!!! Forgot, with the leaning fob, 40 mph is the max. Program anything under that. Feel free to PM if need to. Those little ones make it the best it can be!!!

I don't know - I didn't know that was an option. I'll check.

When I got my Renegade 1200 a few weeks ago , the dealer referred to that as the Drunken Key :)

Actually a great option as stated by Hoosier for kids and anybody who has never ridden a Snowmobile

The Green tether is just a regular key programmed to limit the speed you can also program to act as just a normal key spare. The eco switch 3 settings alters the throttle response from sport to standard and also limits in eco mode great for backing and loading in the trailer...

They can do some work on that Eco switch for all settings or add a fourth setting; "Linear", OMG the throttle progression stinks n these sleds.
(yes, I did just criticize Ski-Doo).
