With all my spare time, I studied and passed this NWS quiz >>> http://www.srh.weather.gov/srh/jetstream/doppler/doppler_review.htm

I now know that in a 60 min timespan, that dopplar radar transmits for only 7 seconds, and the remaining 59 minutes and 53 seconds the radar is in a listening mode (waiting for return signals)
