Wondering if anybody out there knows of any down-loadable trail maps for the Upper & Lower Peninsula of Michigan for a Garmin GPS? I just purchased the new Garmin GPSMAP 60Cx and I want to get all the mapped trails downloaded to it for the state of Michigan, didn't know if these were free anywhere or needed to be purchased? I know some places offer these for lower costs than others. Any info. would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks doc and uncle ed I appreciate the info. I have not seen this topic under the miscellaneous thread since i've been using the new board. Although, I'm not the top poster on here either, so I may have missed it. Not that I wouldn't be if I could, just not enough hours in the day, damnit. Were having an insane ice storm right now in Berrien CO. Southwest, Lower, MI (at least for anything I have ever seen before). Coming home I could turn my steering wheel to the left or right as far as I wanted without the car moving in any direction. This will be an awesome hard pack if we can get some snow on top of it, trails would turn into a race track. Forecast keeps changing for the weekend and into next week, be interested to see what John has to say in the morning.

Whether free or paid for trail coverage per state is the same. It's in the details to pay or not. I have both. Both have attributes worth the cost. Not looking to get blasted here but search and investigate all available products and make an informed consumer choice.

Trouble

I'm really struggling on getting the maps onto my Garmin Oregon 400c. After downloading from gpssledmaps.com to my PC, I attempted to send them to the GPS unit via USB cable. The available space on the GPS is 41 mg and the map size is 67 mg. Can anybody tell me if this means that I'll need to download from the PC to a chip and then insert into the GPS unit? Any other suggestion would be welcome. Thanks.

If your unit takes a SD card then you need to put it on that to use. Anyone who needs a Garmin, Megellan or Lowrance set up contact me. My computer savey son can hook you up. He has done several already. (donations accepted to pay towards his 4 yr. computer tech schooling). He fixes stuff in 10 min. after I spend 6 hrs. on it with no results.

I'm on my way to Radio Shack and may just take you up on your sons expertize.

If you have a micro SD card slot, which I am sure the Oregon does, you will need to remove the Micro SD card and install a new blank card. On my Garmin 60 CX I have an SD card that is 1GB and came install on the unit, but I still need another blank card in order to download the 24K Topo map package I got.

So, just pick up a 2GB MicroSD card from Best buy for like $12.00 and install it in the unit....... Taking out the old SD card with the preloaded base maps.

Hope this helps!

I picked up a 2GB MicroSD card and installed it. There was no factory installed card. I'm still getting a message about there not being enough memory to upload the map? I might have to polarisrider1's son? Thanks for the help.

How much of the topo map are you trying to upload? You may not be able to upload the whole thing, just areas you think you may need. There is a lot of information in topo and you may not be able upload it all???

On topo map for Togwotee I could only get an area about 30 miles wide and 15 miles tall on a 2 GB card. Lowrance charged me $60 for the download. But I was able to select the area I wanted. They sell topo maps by sections of like 5 miles x5 miles.
