Downloadable Trail Maps For GPS GARMIN

Tonight I just downloaded the Great Lakes 24K Topographic map and it was 1.725GB file which took like 2 hours to download into the unit.....USB can be slow to download to device.

If you are trying to download the whole country Topo in 100K format you may still not be able to fit it on your unit.

I have the highest resolution Topo currently available from Garmin that covers several midwest states and it fits fine on my 2GB SD card

Not sure

How much of the topo map are you trying to upload? You may not be able to upload the whole thing, just areas you think you may need. There is a lot of information in topo and you may not be able upload it all???

I'm really not sure. I believe the $39 package bought me two complete states. MI and WI. I have been attempting to load one of what appears to be many IMG files for the state of WI and continue to get a not enough memory message (though it's saying that there's only 41MG available for a 67MG file?). The one wild card seems to be a posed question during the uploading process, "I do not have MapSource", which I don't, so I have to check it. I've gone so far as to have a Garmin Geocaching guru confirm the SD card is properly loaded and ready to accept a download. I'm going to call Red Pine Mapping Customer service this morning to see if they can help out. Must I have MapSource to manage the file(s) and if so what version? Way too much effort for this reasonable savy digital guy.

Topo Map

I have Garmin's Topo 2008 on CD. Once the software is loaded into your computer, you can select portions of the US you want to load to your Garmin GPS. Personally, I don't have a need to load the whole thing at once, & it takes up a lot of memory. I too have the 60CSx which has a 128MB microSD card, standard issue is only a 64MB card. The only drawback on it is that the unit has no built in memory, so you are limited to what you can load. I have not looked into a larger microSD card than the 128MB, then again, I really don't need that much data. It has taken me a little while to get the hang of it, but, I really like it. I did load the overlay of gpssledmaps for the U.P, a word of caution, it is not 100% accurate, but it is nice to get a general idea of where the trail is when out in the woods in the event a quick exit is necessary.-Mezz

I just got the $39 package yesterday and added a 3rd state for $10. I paid $49.90 for MN, WI & MI. And the maps are just what I was looking for! I have them loaded on a Garmin Colorado with a 4 gig SDHC memory card in it. I also have some Topo information on the card.

Free maps are availabled on line

I have a garmin 60cx, I bought the topo cd, loaded the area that I ride (Up, Wisconsin, N. Illinois) and downloaded all the free maps from gpssledmap, and other sites. I found several on snowmo discussion sites... totallyyamaha, hardcoresledder etc....

They worked great, I have the whole up and wisconsin trails systems on my gps. I still have room to mark my routes for a week. I have gradually added gas stations, hotels, and other waypoints as I go.

When I get home I download all the routes and wayoints from that trip and save them.

I have tried to send them to others, but haven't figured that out yet. :)

Got er done

It took a number of back and forths via email with Ryan at Red Pine Mapping, but we got the MI maps loaded up. I've already created a route from Houghton up around Copper Harbor and back. Headed there Thursday thru Sunday.

One happy sledder to have this new toy functioning.
Thanks for all the help.
