This is the week of the Experimental Aircraft Association Fly-in in Oshkosh and I've attached a couple of links to video that indicate the scope of this event. I'll be a part of the logistics and transportation team that moves close to a half million people from point A to point B this week. Add it to your list of things to see and do if you're in Wisconsin this week.

Happen to be out on the water on Sunday with the family and saw the big tanker plane from a few miles away. No idea what was going on or why it was there. So took the boat up right next to it. The plane is very cool.

Just got back. Tanker is broke down. They took off and was scooping water when they hit a bird and it jammed the door and couldn't get rid of the water. When they set down, they were too low in the water and hit rocks. They don't know how long it will take to get it fixed. Today they had 3 bilge pumps going trying to empty it and diver were apparently looking at the damage. Talked to one of the people that knows the history of that plane and this is its last flight. It's gong somewhere to be reconditioned back to Army green and it's going to a museum. Rev.
BTW, you haven't been to an air show until you go to Oshkosh. 3 1/2 hour show today and a night show at 8PM. Didn't stay for that one.

Thanks Rev, glad you enjoyed the show. Here's what they're telling us Sunday morning.

Oshkosh, Wis. (WBAY) A massive firefighting seaplane that was supposed to fly over Oshkosh Saturday was damaged Friday night and will not make its scheduled flight.

Dubbed “the world’s largest water bomber,” EAA AirVenture officials tell Action 2 News that the Hawaii Martin Mars had taken off fully loaded when an engine light came on, prompting them to land unexpectedly in Lake Winnebago.

Action 2 News has learned that the pilots did not realize the “shallow depths of the water” and the plane—which weighed 160,000 pounds—hit an object on the bottom of the lake. When engineers went to check on the engine, they saw a basketball-sized hole taking in water.

The Oshkosh Fire Department helped assist with pumps that were used to get the water out of the plane. The leak has been fixed and tours will continue.

So, all's well that ends well. It's been a crazy-busy week for those of us working at E.A.A. "like a one-legged man in a Butt Kicking Contest" I haven't had the opportunity to take in much myself but I did manage a couple of pictures of war birds on Saturday.

The first is a German fighter, the ME 109. Rare because we shot most of them down and then bombed the factories that built them.

The second is a very nice P 38.

And the third is a Seaplane model of which I'm not familiar. In the foreground is an Army Staff car built by Ford in 1942.

That's all I've got for you today. One more day at AirVenture in Oshkosh and then I'm off for vacation in Door County. I might sleep for a week straight...

Tks Gary. Really enjoyed the show and like I said earlier, I can check it off my Bucket List, but i will return. Would like to come back next year for a couple of days. I know we missed some planes as they left early Sat. morn. Got up into the B-29 which was awesome & small for 6 guys. Would really like to hitch a ride next year so will be saving my pennies, lol.

Yeah was totally bummed not to see tanker in action. We made it over by boat on Saturday but it was so gd rough we didn't head all way over by tanker. Bet crew had "oh, $h*t" moment when they heard metal crunching!!
Still awesome watching show and all planes fly right over. Didn't take many pics cause to hard hold camera bouncing around with the waves but did get this one.
