eagle river races

We went to the Eagle River races many years ago (late 1970's early 80's) when the races were great and the price was low.
Stood there for hours in zero temps.
Then they upped the price and just wasn't fun anymore. Seemed the big boys always won and the little guys never had a chance.

I went Friday night....track was empty compared to the past. I think its a few things, the entrance fee is to high and the number of racers have dropped. years ago, the little guy could wrench a sled together in his garage and be competitive at the highest level and the spectators could see tons of sleds racing......... now its only the big money boys and the spectators are watching a fraction sleds racing compared to years past.... same thing has killed Nascar in a bigger way..(big money)....Nascar stands have been empty for years now.... I know there are many more issues that factor in, just to lazy to type them.

Yep - nailed it. Speed costs MONEY - lots of it. Only the big boys can compete, and the Nascar analogy is somewhat applicable. Cost to maintain and buy the machines has to be up significantly, just like costs of trail riders performance sleds, so to maintain purses, sponsors money goes up and so do entrance fee's. Take the little guys out of the mix, and nobody wants to see the same 3-4 racers when every week or year (in Nascar).

Never cared for oval racing went to a few snocross races around 2000 then lost interest in that too. Now living up north I can ride trails no interest watching racing since I can't do it ...just dont care at all. I would rather do than watch but just how Iam.

The gate fees the last few years hve been just way too high......I have not missed the Vintage Weekend since it was started, we used to bring sleds in to show during the weekend, then they started charging way high, wanted us to pay to bring in the enclosed trailers, etc. etc. finally got to cost prohibitive, so I skipped it this year.....

The 525 is a very well run venue, much more friendly and fun....

I think a lot of it is cost . I have went a few times in the past 5 years , Can't justify the cost for me and the girlfriend for a few hours of racing anymore . And forget about being able to afford to eat & drink there to . I spend a lot of $ in the northwoods area in general and know many locals . But most all have the same issue , $$ . It's to much for what you get . The other side note issue was in the Villa news paper , Mr Decker said he opened up all the hot seats for $50 a piece for sun for everyone . Really $50 a seat / spot to be warm , like you did everyone a favor ..

They now stream it online, which someone said already, but why go spend $35 per person to get in. Freeze your butt off and patronize someone who has really alienated a lot of the locals? You can go to a bar down the road for free. Watch the races, keep warm and spend that $35.00 at the bar (for food:))..........I think the Decker family should consider where this event was and where it is going.......START with working better with the community!
