Eagle River,WI Trail Improvements

Town of Eagle River,WI will bulid a trailer parking area which is very cool thing since a good place to start riding North from or South for that matter. All Vilas county snomo trails using county & state land will be widen to 16 feet but completion will take years but also a good thing. More snowmobile road routes will be approved & marked to allow deeper town access other than just Routes 70,45 & 17. All sounds good to me & will be ready for the season opener!:)

I thought that you didn't want them to widen vilas trails thou??? I guess it is safer when you come buzzing around the corner but the twisties are what the area is known for.

I always like the twisties there too. Nice change of pace from the grades over the border in Michigan. 16 ft isn't TOO wide I guess. IMO, it will just cause the speeds to go up, defeating any safety improvement, but again, just my opinion. On the other hand, it might make it easier to groom, and that area already does a fantastic job with the snow they get.

Exactly easier to groom & they are taking out hairpins & there are still plenty of Twistys not touching private land & and will be gradual change. NW Forest County has the tightest wooded trails you could want so just head east on trail 10 from ER get past the Wayside Gas Station & your are in Twisty heaven for more miles than you can ride in a day or week. Like I said ER is a good place to ride from we never ride around ER you could but too tame for us good for families & renters.

Easier to groom, faster to groom, cheaper to groom. Also trail and snow conditions should be better for a longer time. Tons of benefits and not to many downsides.

in MN the clubs get some money from the DNR (a formula based on the number of miles and location in the state) since the trails in Wi will eventually be wider i am assuming the clubs will have to groom the same trail twice to cover the 16'. Where will the clubs get this extra $$$$

I'm pretty sure our club receives extra money if we make/groom the trails wider.

The groomer goes both ways you know they don't go to the end of the trail system & leave the groomer there.lol

Wisconsin clubs get more money the wider the drag is. So if the trail is widened and an upgrade to the drags are made, it should mean more money per mile. I've seen some nice wide drags with wings in MI but haven't in wisconsin, but I would think it would be possible to not have to double groom, as long as loops could be made.

The clubs very much wanted the wider trails said it would be eaier & safer to groom trails. They said it was too difficult to get the groomers thru the narrow trails plus no where to go when groomers met sleds. Eagle River does a very good job grooming with what snow they get give them lots of snow like last year & you had the best trail conditions in the area. Sugar Camp often gets the grooming award & those trails are super wide much wider than the Eagle River 16 foot spec.

I had no interest in the place rather be riding but 1 bud was always harrassing me to go just said no probably 1000 times to him then distracted him with big miles or fast trail then he was too tired to go.lol

Perfect then! I think you'd have to have no interest in being at the place if you're going to own it!

If the clubs wanted it, I'm assuming it's a good thing
