So am I biting off too much expecting to go from Land O Lakes to Munising in a day? @heckler56 You mentioned some trails and anticipated fuel stops. It looks to me one could do 8 most of the way @ 185 miles a day. I would rather leave enough time though. Having not traveled some of these areas it's hard to tell how much time it takes. Like for instance trail 18 to Republic. We could take 2 to 15 to 111 to 18 into Republic. Looks like about 60 miles perhaps... but that could take us hours more than simply running up to 8. Seems like we may just have to do it and experience it.
LOL to Munising is very do able indeed. However there are some bad areas on 8 as it's being reported.

Yeah I have see reports of Baraga's side not in great shape is that what you are referring to? Our trip is end of the month and we will be riding during the week.

Yes Baraga is the poor trail conditions I was referring to. You have several weeks, so hopefully things will greatly improve by then?

So I am unfamiliar with anything west of Republic and trail 5. For fuel Republic is unreliable. There is a small town 3 miles south on roads to a Ace or Tru Value that has fuel. Otherwise north of Republic towards 8 no more than 20 miles there will be fuel options. If you take 5 to 32 to Gwinn there is fuel in Gwinn and 10 miles further east in Little Lake.

We will do a loop in one day from Munising along the lake (417) to 8 in Marquette then to Republic. Republic down to (5, 32, 8) Gwinn then home. Whole trip is 220-250ish. One of our crew has a Nitro with the baby tank so we always need to be aware of fuel stops.

Oh yeah 2-15-111-18 is a great run much better than 8. Fuel stop at Amasa Tall Pines ride streets to town lunch at Rusty Saw Blade. Snowmobile friendly town. Just check with Iron County Club for conditions since out of traditional LeS snowbelts

Heading up there this Saturday for the week. If I think of it I will post conditions. We base out by Buckhorn and 16 Mile lake and get to Big Bay, Republic, Tahquamenon ..

The trails up to Republic that you mentioned are windy twistys. They will take the time. Once hooking up with 8 you will have more strait stretches. If you fuel up in Republic you shouldn't need fuel again before Munising. What you are proposing is easily done in one day. My husband and I left Munising in the morning went almost all the way down to Iron Mountain via trail 8 to Gwinn then some of the trails you mention. Then up through Republic to Big Bay, then back to Munising via Marquette and Christmas. 323 miles. So what you are mentioning is very doable.

Awesome. Can we assume there is 2 stoke oils for sale at many of the fuel stops? (Would rather not pack much more than a quart or two.)

Most gas stops carry the various oil for snowmobiles. Two stroke for each manufacturer. I ride thousands of miles each year in UP and NEVER carry oil.

I don't either really. Most of our riding is Vilas, Florence, Houghton, Gogebic Counties from the cabin. First trip east. We are excited no doubt. Considering a day earlier now just because I keep finding places to visit. Foggy's in Christmas is one... I was in a metal band back in the early 80's that played there once. No doubt there are lots of stops along the way.

Yes please post Heckler56, thank you.
So far. 7 down to Big Springs good. 2 okay. Haywire got rumbly. 8 by end of day was used. High traffic this past weekend.

Today was 8 east to 43, 88, 431, 9 . Some good and some rumbles. I feel it tonight.

I am hoping the groomers will hit all the trails in the next day especially with the snow coming in.

Heading to Republic tomorrow then Big Bay Wednesday..
