Do ii need to drop skid on polaris edge to replace front inner idler wheels

Absolutely not, did it before, several times.

However, it may not be a bad idea to remove the entire skid, get it onto the workbench so that you can inspect ALL of the rest of the components.

i have replaced inner bogey wheels before with the skid in. Everytime i remind myself of the things i've done with the skid in, the more stupid i think i am.

Indy, don't be so hard on yourself. Does seem like the front inner idler wheels are attached to both shocks with a cross member between the rails. Mbunnis, if you need more info on getting the skid out post your ??'s, someone will help out.
