Engine cutting out

I have a 2005 Rev 600 SDI when I go from half throttle to full throttle the engine cuts out for a split second. When this happens and I look at the RPMs and it hits 8300-8500 and then cuts out to 7800 and then repeats its self several times like this. I was told it could be a broken reed or the sled is over reeving and the computer is cutting it back to a safe RPM. Is this true??

I have an '04 600 SDI that had the exact same symptoms a couple years back. Once I got to mid range it would cut out, almost as if it was loading up. Turned out to be a nightmare! I tried several things on my own... cleaned exhaust valves, changed fuel filter, plug caps, reeds & boots, relays, etc. Nothing seemed to work. I was convinced it was a fuel problem but it was my first fuel injected sled so I was lost. Finally caved and brought it in to the dealer. He determined one of the fuel injectors was plugged (I believe two of them are for mid to high range?). Got home, took it out for a ride only to have the same problem come back! Took it back in again for more diagnostics... Took several hours of trying different things and ripping back and forth in the field out back to finally get it running right. I think he ended up changing the timing, along with some other electronic settings, but unfortunately I can't tell you for sure what fixed it.

I tried to get the $220 back for the injector but he claimed it was bad whether it was causing the problem or not :( I now run fuel injector cleaner through my first tank of gas every year just as a precaution - not sure if this is a dumb idea or not but problem has never come back.

Good luck with your diagnosis.

There is a rev limitter that is supposed to cut it off around 8400 rpm. Mine did this too when I was trying different clutching. Just clutch it to 8000-8100 and you'll be fine. After 8200 you are loosing power.

Hey thanks snowbuff. I just turned my clickers to setting 1 on the primary clutch. Im thinking this should drop the RPM down. Im going to try this step first. Im going to go take it out and try right now

It may be more than one thing.

PM me if it doesn't go away. I had a thread last year on this issue. Can't find it and I don't want to retype it.

Hey Guy's.......Thanks for your advice!!! Since I moved my clickers on my primary to setting 1 I don't have the problem anymore!! It tops out at 8100 RPM and it feels like I have more power at that range and it doesn't cut out anymore!

Thanks

Great to hear Mike! Wish I'd have known to check the clutch before taking mine to the dealer...

Hope you have a great riding season!
