Exhaust valve carnage

Got the sled back from the dealer today, running fine again after the mag side VES valve broke and 'modified' the piston. Check out the pics, about half of the VES valve was gone. Most of it is now on top of the piston...not sure where the rest went.....

There are two valves in the picture. The upper valve is intact and came out of the PTO cylinder - both valves were replaced since the Mag side failed. The other valve - well that's all that is left of it! Most of what's missing is welded to the piston shown in the other pictures.....if you look closely you'll also see where it broke which was what started all the fun.....

wow

Have you ever had them out for a cleaning or inspection. Hopefully none of the E.Valve got into the crank. It look's like it stayed on top of the piston. How are the cylinder's?

I cleaned them 2X in 2500 miles, and they were never very dirty. No sign of trouble before the mag side broke. Sled is my wife's so it's had an easy life. Dealer did the work, said the cylinder was OK, had to replace piston for obvious reasons! Replaced other piston at same time, as well as both valves. Hopefully this engine won't have to apart again for a very long time.......

Only 2500 miles (2005 600 Classic) and my wife's sled which gets babied more than anything...yes it was a big surprise.....

No warning. I was riding it (wife was cold and my handwarmers are hotter) and just tooling along at 50-55. Engine note suddenly changed, I knew something was wrong, got out of the throttle and coasted to a stop. Just as the sled stopped moving, the engine locked up. :-(
