Extended Warranties for Snowmobiles

I've purchased extended mechanical coverage for vehicles in the past but have never heard of this for sleds. Does anyone know if these programs exist? If so, what companies offer it and are they worth it? What are the costs, coverages, etc? Any info would be appreciated.

I have bought extended warranties for certain sleds I've owned. It is best to research just what is covered and if there are deductables. I found that with Polaris it is best to by the Polaris star insurance for there sleds. Least amount of hassles to get paid is what the dealer tells me. Make sure of the "ands, if's and but's" of the policy. I have a 06 RMK 755 with extended warranty on it for 3 more yrs. They replaced the torn carb boots and crossover pipe gasket under warranty. The pull rope pulled through the pull handle and the rope went into the housing. They had to pull the motor to get the pull rope cover off. That was covered. With all the electronics to make that motor run I felt it worth it to buy the extended warranty. 2000 mountain miles on it and it is holding together fine. Also some policies will void if you add aftermarket pipes, etc. I cleared everything in writing with Polaris and the dealer on each item I changed. SLP can, SLP Vents and intake, removal of front radiator, etc. Polaris said they would warranty my changes since they are also Polaris recomended up grades for that model. So to sum it up, Do your homework. I believe that if you have the warranty, you will not use it. If you don't, you wish you did. It's a mental insurance policy to me.

i bought a used polaris and it payed off, burned it down after 300 miles.you never know when you buy a used sled what happened to it or what mantenance was done or anything.but basically you are just prepaying for a repair.i payed 1600.00 for my coverage and they came up with over 2 grand in repairs so it worked in my favor.if i was buying a new sled i would not buy extended coverage

Would you buy it at the end of the warranty that comes with the sled? Say like for a one or two year old 800 Polaris? and the coverage was $700 for 3 more years. bumper to bumper, with $50 deductable. Also depends on the "Deal" you got on the sled at initial purchase. $1600 for a warranty on a used sled seems like a lot of money to me on a gamble, unless the odds were in my favor. Then so I would not buy that model if I felt it would be troublesome to the extent of spending the extra $1600. Lots of variables.

It's a 2009 Dragon 800 Switchback. It under the "extended warranty" until 12-26-2010. I talked to my dealer and they said that there is no additional extension available from Poo since it out of it's "original" warranty. I'm wondering if there is a company that offers aftermarket mechanical coverage on toys. Sorry I wasn't more detailed originally. Thanks again!

I bought extended warranty for three years for my 09 800 polaris. I thought the factory engine warranty wasn't enough so I spent $850 extra. It was only available the day I bought the sled from the dealer so I was told. The company warranty is called AFTERCARE. I have zero deductible bumper to bumper coverage except drive belt and track. Cheap Insurance if the motor blows again.

Let's hope we don't need that EXTRA insurance!!! If Polaris would fix the 800 mapping problems there shouldn't be a need for the insurance.....at least engine wise.

Ignorance gets you no where. All brands have it available. More things can go wrong than just the engine.

I bought extended warranty 2 days before my factory warranty was up. Sled is a 06 carry over bought new in 08 from a dealer in St. Paul, Minn. I hauled it back to MI. A different dealer in Michigan sold me the extended warranty this past Oct. for 3 more yrs. under the Polaris Star Aftercare extended warranty for $700. Isuspect your dealer doesn't offer the extendeed warranty. You can buy the warranty from any dealer that carries your brand and sells the warranty. Also if I blow up the motor or something else fails I can take it to any dealer in the US to be fixed. It does not have to be the dealer that sold the warranty. Polaris will reimburse any dealer in there network for service work performed. Other brands I do not know about.

Waste of money.

I felt that way for years. the sleds are getting way to complicated and it gives peace of mind to those who can't fix there own sleds. I would never buy an extended for a Polaris edge chassis with a carbed motor. Those are a cake walk to fix. Ask Indy. It is simply a roll of the dice. Like life Insurance.

For your sake LANER I hope you don't need the extra warranty. Maybe your dragon will run better with new motor, and I will be the only one in the group to keep blowing up since I have the extra insurance. You know this motor topic is never going away as long as we have the 800 engines. LOL

I guess I will just roll the dice. They sell those warranties because they profit from them.

Should you get an extended warranty? I think it depends on the company. Some of these companies won't hardly warranty anything. BRP doesn't cover for crap IMO. Had an extended warranty on my Outlander, they didn't really cover anything.( i.e voltage regulator, Struts) My Yamaha extended warranty, on the other hand, covered things most companies would consider were and tear. (shocks, exhaust) Yamaha 4 year only cost me about $400.00 Just my .02 worth.

That's true, It all depends on how much risk one wants to take. They are not for everyone. I normally would never buy one, but the track record on that model sled and that I got the sled new and dirt cheap, I could put the extended on it and still have a sweet deal. I did have a carb boot tear issue, exhaust Y gasket leak, pull rope issue Knot pull thru handle, and torque stop dry rotted issue that all was taken care of at no charge. all minor things with no lost riding time.

Agree 100% On Poo 800

Only way to go with 800 Poo until problems are under control. Very smart investment & piece of mind. 2011 Yamaha you get 4 year warranty not sure you need more. I took 5 years Y.E.S.on non current 2007 Attack GT in 2008 but came off Doo 800 burn down at the tune of $2,200 so was very guy shy. I will always have an extended warranty unless OEM offers standard 4 years as part of deal. New sleds are complicated & cost way too much to not have a multiple year warranty.

The exception to the rule would be if the sled is prone to certain problems. When I purchased my poo brand new the price on a two year extension was $495 special for 2 more years. Cheap insurance for $247 for 2 more seasons of coverage. If it was more than that I would of passed. The three years have passed and I did not use it!! Another reason to purchase would be if you are not mechanically inclined.
