Facemask

I've attempted to do what you want to do. It never worked very well for me.

I recommend that you get a different helmet. A Polaris AF-1 or BRP Modular 2.

You may also want to get a heated shield for yours. Of course that's going to run you more than the Polaris helmet.

I really don't recommend a polaris helmet. I've had 2 of them in the past 5 years and they're garbage. Now i'm onto hjc and i've had this one for a few years and no problems.

I do have the modular 2 helmet w/ the electric shield. I wear the klim face mask with a head sock just because like the extra warmth. It seems to be the best set up for me.

Which models have you had?

AF1 and an Lsomething. The "up and down" mechanism in the face shield broke on one, and on the other, the 2 shields (its a dual lense) split apart. Then on my dads older polaris one, the thing around the chin fell off, on my sisters the same thing, and on one of my really old polaris helmets the shield fell apart so that's actually 5 polaris helmets down the pooper. I managed to halfway fix one of them and my dad still uses one. I will not buy another polaris helmet.

I only used the AF-1 for 2 years and didn't have any problems with it. I upgraded to a Modular 2 only because it's easier to chat at stop signs because I wear glasses.

It's hard to say if the helmet will break in the future. I'm handing it down to my girlfriend so I hope it holds up!

Check out a No-Fog mask. I use mine with a moto-x style helmet and goggles, but should also help with a more traditional full face helmet.

The one modification I did to my mask is to cut a small round hole where the mesh portion is....lets more air in and out.

X2 on No-Fog with Moto-Cross Helmet. YOU WILL NOT FOG! Many times the No-Fog's are sold out by now, so make sure you go to your sled dealer where they will have them with Arctic Cat/Polaris/Yamaha on them. Do doesn't do them.

X3 on No Fog, best facemask ever, no more fogging for me using MX or full face helmets. Don't do a knock off version, I tried that and they are a cheap imitation that won't work anywhere near as good and aren't as comfy either.

Alternate method:

Remove shield from helmet. Use good goggles made for skiing. I've had fog only when diggin out machines, though if you're getting face shots all the time you will get snow in the vents and fog that way. Haven't used a face shield integrated into a helmet for years personally. The biggest advantage is your eyes are basically seperate from the rest of your face, and will only fog if you basically direct your breath upwards towards the bottom of the goggles.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the no-fog mask, looks pretty nice to wear even with goggles.

Heated face shields are amazing wore my uncles once when i couldnt get my goggles to stop fogging (cracked lense on turbo flows ) and i loved it no fog no ice build up.

If the Poo or the Doo modulars are fogging up then you are not using them correctly. I have both and I like the BRP Mod. better. You have to use the panty liners for best results. and yes the snorkel must be used to work correctly. The old Poo Wedge helmets formally Yamha wedge in the 80's both made by Bell, worked well for years with the face shield cracked open a hair. All the helmets mentioned above are all trail riding helmets.

Thanks for the info, havent gooten through yet but will keep trying. What do use to keep top of head warm? I wear a open motocross helmet with 509 googles. Thanks -Jonathan

I don't wear anything else under my helmet....my head always stays plenty warm.

On really cold days, I do add a turtle fur to help keep my neck warm.

If you helmet has a bunch of vents, then a piece of duct tape over the openings works great (and adds a nice redneck touch!).
