We've stayed at the Holiday Inn in Houghton MI (UP). They had nice rooms, an indoor pool, and a free continental breakfast which was better than expected. Right next store is gas (pumps only, no attendant) and tons of places to eat. It's also very close to Shopko and Walmart if you need anything else. You have to go a few blocks to get to the trails but nothing too hard. I think your family will enjoy the canal "Lift Bridge" experience in Houghton/Hancock and there are several loops you can do north and south of town. It's a little further than you were talking, but riding north up to Brockway Mountain (sounds scarrier than it is) and looking out over Copper Harbor and Lake Superior is just awesome! Or go south on the Bill Nichols Trail and cross the Firesteel Trestel Bridges, they are very cool. We have been going on trips for 10 years now and our first choice HANDS DOWN is the UP! Just my .02 :D

I agree with Peter, Munising/Wetmore area was great! We stayed at the Americinn, they have a pool, waterslide, hot tub and a nice free continental breakfast. We rode to Christmas, and my kids got a real kick out of that town! They loved all the street names! I would much rather ride with my kids in Michigan, than Wisconsin.

Northern Highlands in Boulder Junction is a an older motel but clean and has a pool. Many short or long loops from there. Whatever direction you want.

Thanks for all of the other destinations. I will be looking into all of these options.

I do hope that the Parkview continues to stay open. That is a great place to stay at!

Thanks again,

On a good year shack'n up anywhere between crivitz and iron mountain is good start for the young flipper whippers. Don't get me wrong here I love sport'n the Yopper ninsila but the shorter distances in the northweeds is better suited fer kidos till their early teens.

Hayward/Cable is where my family cut their teeth on sleds in the 70' and 80's when a long day was 75 miles of moguls.

Many bars/resturants with game machines for the kids. Many fond memories for the kids and adults.
