On Sunday, Jan. 27, a Fort At*kinson man will attempt to break a Guinness World Record.

The man is Joe Beavers and the record is "fastest wheelie on ice."

Beavers, 35, will attempt the mo*torcycle stunt on Lake Kosh*konong by Norm's Hideaway.

"It's one of those things I've been talking about. It took a while to get Guinness to accept the proposal," said Beavers. "Guinness Book of World Records is based oversees, so it's about touching base and filling paperwork. It took a while and they finally got back to me. I said 'here's my chance if I really want to beat (the record)'."

The current world record is held by Ryan Suchanek, Beaver's buddy and stunt partner. Suchanek sped into the record books on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, on a Kawasaki ZX-10 traveling 90 miles per hour for 200 meters on an ice-covered Lake Kosh*konong in front of Sunset Bar & Grill.

"He set the record, but it's kind of two teammates always battling back and forth," said Bea*vers. "It's kind of an ongoing battle for years."

Beavers will be attempting to beat the record on his 2004 Kawasaki ZX-10 sport bike.

The day's festivities will begin around 10 a.m.

"We probably won't start doing speed runs until noon and in between that, Ryan and I will be doing stunts on ice to fill the time," said Beavers.

"It's one of those things ... there's a huge fear factor to it when you're dealing with ice and nature. Hopefully we're successful," said Beavers.

"People are impressed with wheelies on a drag strip; the whole theory of doing a wheelie on ice with a sport bike (is really impressive) if you've never seen it," he said.

Beavers said it takes a lot of training to do such motorcycle stunts.

"It's not like we woke up one morning and decided we're going to do this," he said. "It wasn't planned overnight. There's a whole lot of science behind what we do to make it safe."

Norm's Hideaway is located on Kuehn Road west of Fort Atkinson.

I stopped by for awhile and watched them do some stunt riding on the ice but did not stay to see if he broke the record. Did anyone go and watch?

Heard a pickup with a 6 place trailer broke through the ice....

A Guy who works for me entered his son and daughter in the atv races, and they came out 1 & 2. His daughter won the kitty cat class....They're pretty young, and are pretty good riders already.
