Finally - UTV registration in Wisconsin

very happy to see this I do wonder how they are going to go about registration if you already own one. generally they make you pay sales tax somewhere along the line but if you bought out of state then what.

As an avid ATVer, I'm personally against the idea of UTVs on a lot of the WI trails for safety reasons. On many of the trails they will simply be too large. For fire roads, wide forest roads and rail grades they'd be fine, but just imagine meeting a Rhino or Ranger on a winding trail in the woods.....might as well be meeting a Silverado or an F250. No thanks.

The county I live in was one of the test counties last year for the UTV program and it went over very well. There were no issues/complaints about trail space by other riders and it was well received by the ATV community. We used to own ATV's but switched to a UTV and do not regret our decision. Less dust to eat for one, great for families who do not want to purchase multiple ATV's to go riding etc.. When we met ATV's on the trail, we had no width issues with the UTV and the Marinette county trail system is windy, twisty and through the woods for the most part. They may not be as "fast" on the trail as an ATV is, so safety shouldn't be an issue....

Just move over and let the " UTV's " by !!! sounds like U want the whole trail system to Ur self well get use to it

And here's the reason I don't post my opinion too often on things like this because some people can't have an objective discussion. Instead they go after the person. Nowhere did I say I wanted the trails to myself. If that was the case, I wouldn't ride trails. I already share them with plenty of other people.

I have no problem sharing, where there is room to do so safely. The problem is many of the trail systems are simply not wide enough for 2 utvs to pass each other and barely wide enough for an atv to pass a utv. Some trail systems are wide enough and I have no problem with them on those trails.

I agree that's it's a sticky subject and there isn't a clear solution. The UTVs do need a place to ride, but I don't think that all of the ATV trails are setup for them to safely interact with ATVs.

i can only speak from what i have heard . i believe there will be a width requirement for the utv. i own a rhino and we drive it right in the back of my pickup it fits inside the wheel well. if people put bigger tires on them then yes they will be a bit wider but still fit in a truck. i personally don't think it should be much of an issue. i hope

Looks like the UTV plan has a 65" width maximum. I have been on logging roads in my truck and have met some bear hunters coming the other way. Basically you work it out - each move over a bit and get by. I have ridden a few trail systems in wisconsin and I think it will be fine from what I have ridden. There is always going to be that one person that is driving down the middle of a tight trail while looking backwards to see if he just hosed his buddy with mud that you run into. Same with snowmobiling.
