Finishing Off the Inside of a Trailer

Finished the lighting and some of the "camping" amenities tonight. Here are the lights, LED's, only put in three for now, dimmer works good but I probably won't put more than 1 or 2 more in after we see how it works out. Almost as bright as I'd ever want it with just these 3 installed. Tomorrow should have it converted to the camper so I'll post all the camper photos in a group tomorrow.

Came out pretty good. I figure I can convert between sled hauler and camper or back in under an hour. Have a wall in the rear ramp door set just inside the spring, built in 2 sections with a header in between and a screen door, 12 screws hold the whole thing in place. Screen door on the side door and a cabinet upfront with a plywood top for now and room for the undercounter mini fridge there too. Carpet tiles layed in loose for the floor. For now I'm not going to open the front ramp as I didn't have time to make a screen for that. Probably will do that in the future. Should be able to run the fridge, small microware, lights and a clock, phone charger etc. at the same time as I ran 12 gauge stranded wire for a 20 amp circuit. We'll have a fan to move air through also. If we get serious about this down the road I'll add a circuit for a rooftop A/C but that's a long time from now.

Total of $210 invested for the "camping" mode. Ready to put in the fridge, cots, rest of the gear and head to the UP on Friday!

We "camp" in enclosed trailer in the summer. I built a wooden framed screen that fits into the front ramp opening. Built so it fits "snug", and needs no hardware to hold it in place.

We set up a couple of Cabela's cots in the back, a folding table and chairs in the front, and we are all set. Use a popup canopy for outside living. Quick, easy, and best of all.....cheap!

Thanks YB. Would have taken a lot more of my time had I found that site before I started because I probably would have spent a ton of time looking at it, and would have maybe done more work than I did.

How do you manage with the screen in the front with the cable for the door? That was the reason I built a wall in back so it would sit behind the spring, pulley and cable. I'd like to put a fixed screen in front but that cable is giving me headaches.

That is sweet!
All you need now is a trash compactor. :)

I know a guys that's got one :)

May be talking to him about an RV too if the wife likes this camping idea!

Well just back from camping with it. Worked great, but I learned that I should have set it up with the "man" door on the curb side. I ordered it with the door on the road side so I could park it in my shop and still open the door. So then I put my 110v hook up on the curb side. All the campsites are set up with the power hook up in the back right corner, and the fire ring toward the back on the left side. The way my trailer is set up I needed to park on the left side of the site. We made it work, but knowing how I plan to use it for summer camping, I wish I would have just stuck with the standard curb side door.

Gary what did you use to hold up the paneling in your trailer. I'm ordering mine in two months. Didn't get one last year. I got six rolls of that FRP for free . I got 7000 black headed screws for free also. Would look ok maybe. Thanks let me know.

I got the frp in 4X8 sheets so I don't know if the rolled product you have as the same rigidity but I just used 5/8" self taping screws. I pushed 100 at a time into a piece of foam board and spray painted the heads the color I wanted them so they would match the color of the frp (white, green or black) and they worked fine. Only thing I'd do differently is put all the joints on a piece of the frame. I thought the frp would be rigid enough to stay flat if I joined the pieces with the connector between framing pieces but I have some sagging that I don't like.

Here is a photo that shows the screws.

See how the seam is between the roof frame. As time went on that started to sag and now the ceiling has a little wave in it.

What did you use to cut that FRP stuff with? I can get the screws for free at work. How many screws in one frame , how far apart. thanks for your help. I'm getting the 7x26 round roof.

I think I used a 4" grinder with a diamond blade to start with, then I think I switched to a circular saw with the same type of blade. I don't remember for sure now. As far as spacing, here are two more photos you can see the screws in. I have a 7' wide flat top, the green sections are about a foot, the center is 55" I think, so you can figure out how far apart they are. On the walls it's the standard kick board, then 5" for E-Track, then 48" of white frp and the rest is black so you can see how those screws are spaced. Sorry, won't be able to actually measure things for a few days.

Thanks for your help. Would it be better to get the walls 16" on center to prevent the wave on walls? How many sleds can you get in yours? I was looking at 7x 24 or 7x 26 round top. Were your screws you used have a small head on them? I will get back with you if you don't mind.

Do you like the entry door on the same side of ramp? I just thought it would be easier to load even though they have that board to go in front of door.

works good for me. didn't want to mess with the board, and didn't want to hook a ski if it wasn't in place

Got 300 screws for free at work, going to paint them white. Stainless 3/4. What would you recommend to put on floor instead of ski runners. Will marine plywood tare up easy? Thanks for your help.
