ubee: problem comes when the deer food source is low or gone then what? We know deer pop is low already so what do these puppies going to munch on? I think they will migrate south in WI to deer heaven in the corn fields & cause all kinds of havoc.

The wolf is already coming down. My brother lives just south of Marshfield and he's already come face to face with one. It was crossing the road in front of him and as he slowed to look at at it, the wolf just stood there staring at him from the ditch. It didn't seem to mind the publicity too much.

it's just nature doing what happens. unless we all want to be vegetarians, something has to die for the meat eaters to live. man doen't like it if we are not the only predator doing the killing.

I'am all for a Wisconsin Wolf season ,with a $100.00 bounty like they did in the 40's up here when the deer herd was almost wiped out! Time for WI. DNR to fess up that we have too many wolves and bears running around and start a sound management plan. I"am sure all the tree huggers are going to be screaming. Its time to start collecting data for hearings! got to have data not just internet ramblings! Anybody else got any wolf ,bear pics, sightings, encounters for data that can be used for petions, hearings ,etc.? sign in mich tavern said to smoke a pack a day!

ubee: Special deer hunt southern WI this weekend. CW stuff. I think WI DNR wants to kill off the deer herd down to very low numbers thinking this will eliminate CWD. It won't but wolves will bring down & eat weaker deer. The wolf will thrive in WI & the farmers will pay the price. If I start seeing wolves in my area they will meet another predator. Too many small children running around here & I will NOT play little Red Ridinghood & risk Grandma too. The DNR can cram it on my property if at risk I will take care of it myself.

White...you are absolutely correct. Wolves are not stupid and they will follow the easiest route to food. Once they find abundant food supplies, as in the southern counties of Michigan and Wisconsin, they will be there and the numbers will swell exponentially. Then the wolves will not stop at just deer, but anything that moves on the ground will be fair game.

Having said that, I am not afraid to walk the woods at night, or the day for that matter. I don't think that wolves would likely go after you or your family unless they really thought they needed to do that. As more and more wolves get mixed into populations though, expect lots of dogs and cats and other pets to pay the price first.

It is a sad day when we have to ignore sound game management to make way for political medaling in controlling the wolves, and coyotes. They were controlled once before to near extinction...which I don't agree with, but to turn the tables and let them grow to numbers 100 fold greater than they were before man was around with full protections is just as wrong. Denali National park is a big place and when you find that this whole park has less than 50 wolves in that area, sort of puts things into perspective.

anonomoose: My kids bring up their golden ret & their black lab. They are both the sweetest dogs & like all people & other animals. They are both a bit goofy when it comes to birds but they were bred for that. We walk them 2 miles in the forest on our private road & as dogs do they circle in & out of the woods on both sides of the road. I would hate to see these wonderful dogs get snagged by a wolf they would think it was another dog to play with. To me it is just a matter of time until woves move in this area. I will protect my kids dogs not to metion my grandkids from wolves. Very easy to strap on my 44 mag. My neighbor across the lake packs heat all the time when he walks his dog. I thought he was a military freak with all his army surplus stuff. I used to laugh at him when I rode by my on my Attack but maybe he was ahead of me?

Hey kinda reminds me of the Boston Tea Party, Just make sure you hook that collar on a semi heading south to New Orleans. The only way to try to bring back the deer herd is to act now. Be discreet get er done!! dont tell your brother in -law!!

WI Wolf pop out of control & DNR can't do a thing but count, tag & track. Good thing gone bad. Really depressing 200 miles of riding so far & not a single deer sighting. Not many tracks either. Seeing a lot more fox & coyote tracks but very few deer & the tracks I have seen are small single deer tracks no herding so far.

Wolf Kill Trail 109 near Alston

This is a picture from late afternoon of January 3, 2006 just south of Alston.
Area was not froze-up yet and there were probably a dozen water holes in two miles. Came to these remains. Without going too far off trail could not see anything else, no head and not too much blood. Basically a hide, backbone(looked like it had been cleaned with boning knife no meat left) and 4 hoofs from the ankle down.
Saw another kill very similar January 26, 2006 near Guinn Mi. Sorry can't find a pic.
