This is driving me crazy...what a bad start, we bought a 2000 Polaris 325 Magnum 4 wheeler a couple weeks ago, go out for our first ride go 17 miles and stops running, no puff of smoke, no noise just done. No compression, so we take it in and and find out its got a bent valve we were told the cam was bad that’s why it happened, so we call the guy we bought if from and good guy he says have it fixed and he'll pay for it (hind site should've just gave it back) so get it back new cam, valves, rocket arms, valve springs all fixed good to go NOT we go 9 miles today and same thing. Not happy to say the least...

Gonna call the Polaris dealer that worked on it in the morning and the guy we bought it from but.... was just wondering if anyone has any idea what could have happened or maybe beter said what would make it do it again?

Take it back to the Polaris dealer and trade it in to HIM! If he balks or hesitates, you will know what your answer is....bad unit from Polaris.

Linda; What happened. I told you, you have to slow down, be careful and don't beat that machine so much. I have seen you ride girl. You have to treat it with tender loving care. What a bummer. Darrell is now wondering what the heck would cause it. Hope you weren't by yourself or with only 1 machine. Did you have somebody to tow you home? See you tomorrow night.

oh yeah, and none of them were mine. 1 was my grandpas, i cleaned the whole thing, repainted the whole thing, drilled out the elongated holes for the handlebars and put in bigger bolts, cleaned the carb, drained and put in new gas, changed oil, new spark plug, and cleaned air filter. that was a little 20" 3 hp MTD. Started right up. The next was my uncles some fleet farm brand. He just wanted it to run, didn't need an oil change since oil looked fresh. It hasn't ran in 5 years. I took the carb off and apart. cleaned the heck out of it popped er back on and wah lah. I also drained that gas and put in fresh. The last was a 1970's Craftsman lawn mower. It hasn't ran in 10 years. I took the throttle off the handlebar and just do it by hand. I put in a new spark plug, changed oil, cleaned air filter, drained the gas and put in some fresh gas, and cleaned the carb. That thing started right up too! good weekend for me. The Craftsman i got for free at a rummage sale and i'm going to keep it. My uncle gave me $7. And i fixed up my grandpas for his birthday.

the reason the cam went bad in the first place is probably because the oil pump went out. The oil pump went bad and then oil could not get up into the head to lubricate the cam and other parts. So you brought it in to get it fixed and the dealer did not fix main problem they just fixed obvious secondary problem. That is my best guess. bring it up when u bring the rig in. oil pump

Mrsrunningbear Perhaps you got your ride fixed with cheap parts made in china got to watch out for all kinds of parts these days they don't make things as good as they did in the old days when people had pride in there work and things was made to last and not go into the dump in about a few weeks just a thought and good luck with this to :)

well its getting fixed its the only route everyone (dealer & the guy we bought it from) would go. Dealer was great about it all, he said that he kicks himself for not going further last time. They found the underlying problem and also found out it had been worked on before, they found new parts just not the part it really needed I guess, probably why the guy we bought it from so willingly said get it fixed and he'd pay for it. I guess it all has to do with the timing Bear said, some worn gear and a clip thingy (yes I used a technical girl word ) All in all it’s not costing us much more than a headache and the dealer said it would last a long time now....so we'll see

Stand Up Guy

Bottom line here is the guy you bought the wheeler from, know him or not, is a stand up guy. 95% of people woulda' said "buyer beware", sorry fella. Which with an 11 year old wheeler, thats pretty much what would happen most of the time. Stand up guy or pushover???????? Either way, lucky you!

Food for thought.........................
