I have a bunch of old Yamahas (gp 433, sl 338 and gs 300) that have been sitting for at least 10 years of course the motors are froze/locked up. Is the any tricks that anyone knows of on how to get them loosend/unstuck? any help would be welcomed.
Thanks Bartski

Either pull the heads or just the spark plugs (10 years probably pull heads) depending on your intent and soak them good with PB Blaster.

Most likely the rings have taken a set to the cylinder walls. After a few days give the pistons a wrap with a block of wood and hammer then try turning it over. Repeat until loose.

Look for mouse nests in the airbox When I worked at a shop we would get sleds in that had nests in air box and the mouse piss would rust up the crank bearings. If it is just frozen on the top end try a some thin oil and turn it over using the clutch by hand

thanks

Great ideas to try I have heard good things about PB blaster and I use JB 80, Has anyone ever tried the coke and Diesel fuel mixture? I heard a long time ago you mix some coke and diesel fuel and put it down the plug hoes let it sit for a short amount of time and it will free up a stuck motor, could be a urban legend? we shoud have myth busters check into this.

Hey, isn't that the stuff they sell as Sea Foam??:D

Have unstuck a hundred bike motors fresh out of the barn.

Here's whatchado.....

Mix up a jug/can/bucket of my secrete formula...stuff.

Use EXACTLY these amounts....

One gallon of diesel fuel, preferably no 2 with

One gallon of gasoline...cheapest stuff you can find....

One QUART of 3Ow oil...(or any old oil you have laying around the barn, even used motor oil will work)

Shake well, do NOT drink...even if you are thirsty

Now pull the plugs and use a funnel to pour some of the mix into the top of the motor. For bikes, I fill the crankcase too....right to the top...this lets everything soak in the agent.

Leave the plugs out and let it sit for a week.

Next weekend go out and grab the primary and work it back and forth slowly and steadily...don't force it. If it is still tight....add more juice and wait another week.

It has NEVER failed to unlock any motor yet. Just a time thing.....

Something about the combination of diesel and gas that will penetrate and loosen it up over time.

Try it...let me know how it works for yeah!!!

BTW I learned this from an old farmer/plumber...long gone, but he sure knew what he was doin....

Fill the whole crankcase up with 2-smoke oil, next day drain it out and spin motor by the clutch. good to go.

I had this happen to an old ski doo ss 25. I just poured some diesel in the cylinders and let it sit about a week and wala! I moved the primary and drove the thing for a season. It had some trouble with the carb after that though. Probably just from sitting.
