John, the fungi you posted a picture of is fun to use for "art" projects. Carefully remove it from the side of the tree, trying not to touch the bottom side and set it aside to dry. (it could take several months, but it will become hard to the touch) I have had many of them and paint the white underside with different nature scenes. Sometimes a branch will grow thru them and that makes them that more creative. I have one about two feet across that I'd like to have a "real" artist paint the "Last Supper" on.
