Not looking so great with so much rain as part of this system. It's just par for the course. Soon we will be able to ride for about a 6 week period every year!

I don't think the forecasters have a clue as to what this new system will bring. Just take a look at this gem from JD's forecast:

"To the north of that line, the precip looks to fall as either rain, a mixture of rain and snow or all snow."

Thanks. So not really an idea of what will come down but something!

Yep, tons of uncertainty and quite frankly, if you read the line you quoted above and then follow what the storm does, you may be surprised how much of it comes true.

I guess I could lie, or make something up and just hope it comes true, but in my 30-some years of forecasting, I found that I like to call it like I see it. If you don't know for sure, say you don't know for sure. After, all, it is trying to predict the future, not like most jobs where you just put the square plug in the square hole and react to a change in that routine.

John dont justify your self. Your one of the few weather guys i listen to because your very smart it ticks me off to know people get all mad and blame you when its weather and you cant control it. Just make the best educated guess. Keep up the great work john.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn John you can't catch a break! Last week you said it would storm then you made it stay away...this week you're more reserved and that isn't good enough. I wish you would make up your mind! ;)

1. Thank you for being honest.
2. Thank you for providing detailed explanations with your forecasts. It is great to get more information than "40% chance of snow showers" (for example).

Exactly my point...wasn't ripping JD but saying no one knows what is going to happen with this. It will be interesting to see how this all ends up and who gets what (if anything).

JD & entire area is calling for winter slop some show snow bands in northern WI up to 3" then rain in typical LES WI & UP snow belts due to warmer temps closer to the lake. One huge guess based on current models. Snow totals in northern WI are being downgraded every hour & in Vilas we have little to no base so nothing to lose in this storm. Even if we get 3 inches of slop all it will do is provide a trail base for a later storms. I would not get too excietd about this one at this point.:)

As frustrating as it is for us snow lovers, until you put your feet in a weather person's shoes, there is no sense being disgusted/disgruntled/upset or in some cases, really pissed off, at them. Has anyone ever looked at one of these computer models? Well, I have, John has showed me, and provided links in the past for people to look at. Go ahead, take a look at one, and then get back to me when you figure out how to use it. :D

I have about 2" left here at home if that, I just took the yammy for a rip in the back meadow, giggling the whole time, gotta love the sound of a triple, am I upset that I have not been to the yoop yet this December, a bit, but, nothing I can do about it. Now, 5-10 years ago, I would be BESIDE myself with anger right now. I guess I just have mellowed out as I have gotten older.

Whatever became of the weather wheel? spinning that thing seemed to give better results than all this computer generated weather models. Day 2 of 47 degrees and blue skies. The weather channel missed it by a mile.
