Glass half full, or half empty?

When it comes to snowmobiling, what type are you?

I think it is a good question to ask yourself from time to time. I live and breathe to ride sleds. I assume many on here are the same. Some of the most fun days I have had snowmobiling have occurred in less than perfect conditions. To me, this sport is about getting outside in the winter time with a group of friends and having a good time, seeing new places, and enjoying life. Perfect conditions are merely a bonus to me.

At times, it is easy to take the sport for granted and begin to focus on small details (trail conditions, hand signals, oil brands, off trail, on trail, stand up, sit down, etc etc etc) and become negative when too much time is spent contemplating the minutia.

The season is winding down. Get out there and enjoy it while you can! I know I will be wishing it was right now every day of this summer as I remember the great times of the past season.

I have found that when snowmobiling is taken too seriously, the fun can be taken right out of it.

Normally, I am a half full attitude about sledding. This year has been tougher with no snow at home and no vacation time to allow me to leave. The new sled still has lots of shine left on it, from sitting in the garage.

See, there you go, another perfect example of the half full mentality.:D

Well said!:)
I haven't been out once this year, but still think about snowmobiling in some way shape or form, every day, all year long!

i could not have said it better. most of my riding is with local friends, mostly off trail, logging roads, etc. when in doubt of private dont go there. ususally we only put on a 100 miles on a good day and never go more than 30 from our starting point . there is some fantastic scenery there if you take the time to look. enjoy it all, big and small

Glass half full, fur sure.

Example, got out Saturday morning in western suburbs of Chicago. Trails were actually pretty good, put on 30 miles, quick lunch, and back home by 1, total cost about $30 for gas and food.

Would I rather have gone for three days to Northern Wisconsin, sure. Was it worth it, absolutely.

Boy you would sure think the glass is almost empty with all the whining and complaining going on this year. Im sure the oil threads will start back up. We are already on the second round (or is it 3 now?) of hand signals...

HALF FULL!!!

Been on only two trips this year, both have had their issues with certain things that come up in life to challenge us. But the point is we were OUT doing what we LOVE to do with friends we have a blast with.

Stayed an extra day on the North Shore this weekend and MAN WAS IT AWESOME to ride in a fresh 18 inches of snow while it was coming down. Snow over the hood all day long!!

Physically able to ride and do something I love in (I hate to say it) EPIC conditions......Priceless!!

I take whatever I can, so I guess this is half full. If anything I like to get up to the property and play around even if it is not on the sled. For example the last trip up I put on maybe 30miles in 3 days but I was there to help with a radar run that benefits the club, the other time was spent on the ATV plowing the drives and pushing the piles back, I had a blast. Would I have wanted more riding, sure but it sure beats being in the rat race.

Good Times and the blunders that come with them

Four stroke repaired and brokem again,(Not mine) Anyone needs a parts sled? The other side is not quite as bad :) a blast in the deep (actually got to use the 146 for what its' intended for in MN for once), dogsleds-5 different teams in the woods, nothing better!!

3/4 full. Normally glass is full. must be because of it is getting to be late season and I haven't waxed the boat yet for the next season. I truely think winter is just getting here a few months late.

7/8 full! Especially with some of the good stories recently on this site, the forecasted snow for the North-woods and I'll be in the UP this weekend! It's the minority that ruins it for everybody, but if the majority keep working at it then the good guys (majority of snowmobilers) will come out on top!

I think snowmobiles 365 days a year in some way or another. The season is not over yet for me as I will be heading to the Northwoods Thursday morning. I hope to get one more trip in after this one before putting the sleds in storage for the worst seasons of the year the ones that are not winter!

I think you have to be at least a half glass filled sort of person to enjoy this sport/hobby/activity or whatever it was decided it was called. On a rational basis, is there anything crazier to put your money into (within reason)? It's definitely all worth it to me once the sled is fired up, but the costs and fickleness of the machines, the travel, the shortness and unreliability of the season, the constantly changing conditions, the last minute planning...you almost have to be crazy to get into snowmobiling! I think it's just a sickness that can't easily be cured.

My kids are of the age where I'm not going to be able to get out a whole lot for the next couple of years, yet I check the forecasts and this site each and every day, and dream of the next trip....

I was on the beach in Mexico one week ago having a great time. Couldn't get out of my mind that I'm picking up my new sled on the way to UP tomorrow with the current storm pending! Glass half full (changed my mind, my glass is overflowing), just wish the glass was bigger!

My view of the liquid in the glass scenario is this. I is neither half empty or half full, there is just liquid in the glass. Basically means that I deal with what is given to me and make the most of it.

Simple, right? Not always.
