I got my first open face helmet a while ago. It was the raider one (same one from fleet farm) except i got it for $25 brand new at northern tool. fleet farm sells theirs for 60 i believe. I'm wondering what type of goggles i should look for/stay away from. Never bought a pair of goggles before.

I've had Scotts for about 10 years and have never had a problem. I've have been riding in Canada for 5 days once when it was about 15-20 below every day and they never got a bit of frost or fog in them. I like them, but I'm sure you will get many opinions on this one.

Which one did you get for $25? I can only find them for $69 on the northerntool website.

My 509's are nice but my cheaper Yamaha goggles (believe made by Spy) have less air flow and are better for trail riding and seal up just as good.

Everyones different as to what works. My eyes water real easy in winter so i don’t like alot of air flow. I also use a mask to cover my nose and deflect my breath.

Tell you what Indy I think there is probably about 10 pairs of goggles in box somewhere around here, everyear I try something new and right now I have 3 pairs of Scott 89 XI no sweat goggles that I use between offroad bikes and sleds in my gear bag. But the thing is you just need to try a couple pairs and see what fits in your helmet. The frame has to work in the helmet opening, with the HJC or Bell Moto helmet the Series 89 works best for me, but with an Aria helmet the Dragon fits best. Trial and error.

Indy, when you go out looking for goggles, take your helmet with you. Try the goggles with the helmet so you can actually see & feel the fit. Check for any possible exposed area's. Different makes will fit better than others in various helmets. I have been using Scott goggles for the past 4 yrs, I have no complaints, but, you will have to make that decision based on how the fit is. You are no doubt going to pay more for the goggles than you did the Helmet, $25.00?? :confused:I thought I got a deal on my AC helmet that was $269 & I was able to buy for $130 & it's a current model. Good shopping.:D-Mezz

Indy, That helmet will work. I have a ZR1 that looks the same (Dennis Kirk closeout) I pd. $35 for it. Do bring helmet along. Not all goggles will fit ea. helmet well, like Mezz said. i like the Scott OTC goggles with the foam nose pc. found in Shadetree closeouts. Buying goggles are a pain and you will end up with several pairs eventually. They all work well in the store! lol.

I do also have a pair of the Scott OTG's (Over The Glasses) & they are real nice for full cover. I did find that they also cut down on your peripheral (side to side) vision a tad due to the extra 1/2" of foam. I just purchased a set of 89 TXI's which fit the gap as well as the OTG's. I wear contacts all the time so the extra room was not a big deal. If you can find it in your budget, get an extra lens. I happen to like the Amp Rose, real good for seeing the dips & terrain changes in flat light conditions.-Mezz

No problems ever with my scott pro air snows. I have an a/c helmet, but am happy because they have a noseguard and extra foam to help seal better.

Carter Sez.....

For the guys that sweat a lot....Brand name is; No Fog Breath Deflector mask. It fits under the helmut. This thing has a duck bill nose thing that deflects the hot air down and away from the goggles. This thing is great unless you are clostrofobic. You can cut away the neoprene around the mouth as it is not needed. This mask is about that duckbill. As for goggles, take the helmut along when you go to fit. It is about fit fit. Not the brand. I can't seem to get Scott to work, however I have been using Smith for ever. They fit my fat face.
