Grantsburg Watercross

Grantsburg Watercross races July 20-22. Who's planning on going this year? This will be my first trip up there, just wondering if any other JDer's plan on making the trip.

I'm looking for info on this watercross. http://grantsburgwatercross.com I'm thinking of putting a group together and heading up there this summer for my bachelor party. Trouble I'm finding is that there isn't much for lodging and we aren't set up for camping very well. The middle of July is an awful time of the year to sleep in a tent, probably 90 and humid all night long. The lady at the one motel in town that I did find said that they have a waiting list, she said Siren 17 miles east has more lodging, but we'll have a sober driver problem there. I don't see anything on vrbo.com either. Any suggestions?

Is it just me or does this seem like a real blast of a time, especially mixed with a street dance!?

Also, approximately how many people does this attract? Am I way early to be looking into this, or is any option already taken? I've never been there, don't know how big of an event it is-

Ok, the watercross is alot of fun and is pretty much a town wide event up there. Your options are limited when it comes to lodging. Either you rent an R.V. and try to get a spot at the campground right next to Memory Lake where the event is held, or hotel in Siren. The Pinewood Motel in Siren is where we stayed. No frills, but clean and comfortable. There are a few hotels in Siren.

You are not too early to book this. I booked early and was having a hard time finding hotel due to several weddings in the area on the same weekend.

Hit up youtube for videos and it will give you an idea of what to expect and what kind of a crowd it draws.

Another place that is an option is the yellow lake lodge. About 20 minutes on the the back roads and your in Grantsburg. Nice place on yellow lake and the bar is across the road.

I have been there the last two years and it is FUN! I was lucky enough to stay with a buddy at the campground if you can get a spot there that would be the way to go. Loud with lots of people young and old. Perfect for your snomo fix in July.
