Snowmobile Hill Challenge at Adventure Mtn

The Ontonagon-based Mid America Snow and Terrain Expert Racers, commonly known as the MASTERS, will debut a new form of snowmobile competition at Adventure Mountain (on Saturday, March 21st/this Saturday). The exciting new form of snowmobile competition will be called a "Hill Challenge." A Hill Challenge is a mix of a Snow-Cross, Hill-Cross, Hillclimb, and a Cross Country Race.

The Mountain Lions Hill Challenge will have a snowmobile going over a jump, hair-pin turns, and around a couple gates, as they race from the bottom of Adventure Mountain to the top. The racers will be timed, with the winning times in each class of the MASTERS 2 Divisions qualifying for the Pro Stock King of the HIll and the Pro Mod King of the HIll. The two divisions, Stock and Modified, will be broken down to classes determined by engine size. A popular part of all MASTERS Racing Circuit events is the 120cc class for children between the ages of 4 to 11.

Fans are going to be able to watch most of the event right from the Adventure Mountain Chalet.

"With most of the course happening right in front of the chalet, fans are going to have a way to watch most of the course from a heated facility. Having the food and drink right in the Chalet is an added 'plus,' commented MASTERS Racing Circuit President, Skip Schulz.

The MASTERS has been sanctioning Snowmobile Drag races, Hillclimbs, and Hillcross for 15 years. The events take place throughout the Midwest, and will be the second event the circuit will hold in Ontonagon County. The first event was the Ontonagon County Economic Partnership UP Championship Snow Drags on January 10th in the Village of Ontonagon. The Mountain Lions Hill Challenge is a part of the Ojibwa Casino Hillclimb series, with competitors racing for cash awards, plaques, and points. The driver with the most points in the Ojibwa Casino Hillclimb Series after the MASTERS final Hillclimb in the Duluth/Superior Market on April 10th, winning the Circuit's Number One Hillclimb Jacket from Homestead Graphics.

"With this being the first 'Hill Challenge,' we had to find the venue that this would fit into when it comes to rules, classes, and points. Of the 3 venues the MASTERS runs, Snow Drags, Hillcross, and Hillclimb, we felt this fits the best into our Hillclimb venue. Even though it is really not a Hillclimb," explained Schulz.

Pat's Motorsports of Greenland, along with Matt Tingstad, Bessemer, of Excon Free Ride will be building the Hill Challenge Course. The MASTERS has not announced where the drivers meeting and final registration for the event will take place, as the 15 year running circuit is currently looking for sponsors. The Drivers Meeting and Final Registration, along with the Saturday Night Awards Party will be at one or two of the event sponsors.

The MASTERS is proud to announce that Kissel Chevrolet of L'Anse and Kaurala Racing will also be major sponsors of the event, along with Corrollo Motorsports.

The Mountain Lions will be handling the concessions as a fund-raising effort to make future improvements to Adventure Mountain.

"The MASTERS is excited to add this event to our schedule this winter, and look forward to making this event and new form of competition an annual event. One thing we really like about Adventure Mountain is the amount of snow they get. Then you add into this the great work the volunteers of the Mountain Lions does....not just for the community but for the entire area," replied Schulz.

According to Tingstad, and Schulz, they both feel that this "Hill Challenge" is a form of competition that everyone can have fun and compete in. One of the goals of this event is to provide a form of competition where trail-riders, and racers, all have a chance to have fun and compete.

"Adventure Mountain is a hidden 'gem' in our county and in the Western UP. This event is going to showcase the potential this hill has, and provide a means for the Mountain Lions to raise money to make improvements to the hill. Ths is a 'win-win' for everyone...not to forget the fun the snowmobilers are going to have going for a win in their class," concluded Schulz.

Admission to the Mountain Lions Adventure Mountain Hill Challenge will be $5.00. Competition will begin at 10:00 am ET, with the final Drivers meeting taking place at 9:30 am. For competitor information and Pre-registration you are asked to e-mail Schulz at sschulz@jamadots.com, go to the MASTERS Website, www.mastersracing.net or call Schulz at 906-884-9101

There is no competitor registration on the day of the race. All drivers are required to Pre-Register or attend the Friday Night final Registration meeting.
The MASTERS will also run Uphill Drags and Hillcross at Marquette Mountain, Marquette, Michigan on April 4th and 5th. The Ojibwa Casino MASTERS Series for this winter will end at Mont du Lsc in the Duluth/Superior market with a Hillclimb on April 10th, the Snow Drag Nationals and the Hillcross Grand Nationals on April 11th.
