Have been told by 3 different groups now to not even unload my sled. Is it that bad? Supposed to cool off a bit so maybe it will help? Are they grooming and they just don't set up or did they stop grooming? Sitting at the Ramada wondering if it was worth the trip....

Your just sitting there asking how the trails are? Why not take a quick ride north and find out for yourself?

If I woulda counted it would have been 300 sleds on the trail tonight. It's not even worth unloading from what I have seen and heard. Hoping for some grooming tonight and less traffic.. just sucks that I did 700 some miles two weeks ago and everything was perfect. Oh and the 80 proof says stay put...

the best trails today were any trail that has been groomed daily (not every trail is groomed nightly) and trails that had less traffic
GRTA had best trails today in the areas we rode
their trail report says it all
Friday 1/24 9:00 am CST: Trails are in fantastic shape!! Your militia of GRTA volunteer groomer operators continue to run around the clock! It has not stopped snowing this week picking up 1-2 inches each day it seems. Temperatures are warm and that means the snow moves very easily. Driving hard through corners and excessive track spin will destroy trails fast. We have 12-30″ base (20″ on average) and all that snow can make big bumps. Ride like you have to return that route later in the day and everyone’s experience will improve!

Same deal in Minocqua right now lots of fresh snow, too many people, and temps too warm for a groom to even hold. 10 sleds later and it’s trashed. Your only bet is to run trails that get groomed daily and hardly see any traffic. If I wanted smooth trails I’d head towards iron river sidnaw and maybe East from there.

Slim... Should have been here yesterday, the fishing was great!

Seriously, we did not groom Saturday because of temps and some drizzle/freezing drizzle that fell in the early morning before changing to snow by sunrise. Temps will be dropping, especially in the overnight periods, so grooming will resume tonight, if it did not last night.

I was at the bonfire yesterday and watched sleds bounce down the trail and just cringed, feeling helpless to what mother nature was giving us.

On a side note, there were several reports of seeing a groomer on the main trails 17 & 3 during the morning. I had no idea this was happening, but have been in touch with the groomer boss and it is being straightened out.

Ya last year at this time it was 30 below zero. This yearbwarm temps and drizzle. Stupid. I did see the groomer out my window this morning. Hoping on my horse in 10 minutes. Here's to hoping. Lot less traffic should help as well.

So far so good. Sitting at the Mariner. Give the trails a solid b+. Met two groomers in 70 miles. The boys are hard at work. Gonna be a good week!!!

Yes.

One of my favorite "he who's" is: he who craps on trail will have flies on return

How is the snow holding up? when there is lots of travel, warm temps and lack of replenishment I know the snow can turn to more of a sugar/ice crystal consistency which can make grooming difficult as well. Boy...started off as a banner year, hopefully temps and snow fall will come back around again.

Last night, coming back into Houghton 3 was sugar snow starting about 3 miles south. 3 was shot from Krupps north to Houghton. 30 miles of ****, on top of 312 miles which were quite super.
The snow and the weather are to blame, saw groomers everywhere. It's like concrete under about 8 inches of loose snow that pile up for whoops.

Thanks for the update Bear! had these conditions a few years back in same place, only way up there unfortunately, I know its not the groomers fault, just an unfortunate bunch or weather events and traffic, supposed to be a big push of cold air coming and colors are starting to get darker on John's 5-10 day forecast graphic map, so hopefully the weather gods will restart the snow machine! will be up there the 13th - 19th, sooooo looking forward to it! Thank you again!
