Was up in the up and noticed sledders with either a green light or yellow light for group riders. Any info on this. Seemed pretty cool.

How about just assume there's always another sled coming. I completely stopped using hand signals this year. I don't even look at the oncoming sled, but rather focus keeping mine way right. Never will I take my hands off the bars to say someone's behind me. It's better for someone to think another sled's coming to keep them on their guard.
You said it, here we go. If there is a sled behind you hold up a bottle of Sea Snow. 2 sleds turn the oil on its side and show the oncoming rider. Now if you are coming out of a 90 degree turn, hold up a bottle of Amsoil to warn oncoming riders because there are no turn ahead signs. Turn the oil to the right or the left, whichever direction is appropriate. If you are riding alone remove your helmet to indicate that. If you just passed a hazard or an accident look down and increase speed to warn oncoming rider.

that's good. I think if an approaching rider is present you ought to, stand on your seat but still holding on with both hands, shake your head. Seriously, BeerBellyBob sells these units at his bar in Greenland, he's a dealer.
There probably should be a signal for each sled manufacturer so we know just what we are dealing with, I mean come on. Blue light for a yammi, red for a poo, yellow for a doo and green for a cat,,,we need it so we know
I have a great idea for a sled, you know how when a sled come down the trail and pelts you with pellets? We need a canopy over the sled to collect these pellets and displace them evenly on the train,,,we need that. Also, I need to know where all the rider are going so probably a programmable led displace like they have on buses for advertising. We could even scroll adds for classifieds like our sled is for sale. Maybe kinda like k-mart did, flash light for daily specials,,,heck yea

Not at all tryin to start anything here but with that said....who was the first one to use hand signals????...and did everyone understand what they meant..I mean I still see post on here as to "why did that person I pass hold up there hand??"....at least the light thing will keep people's hands on the bars is all I am thinkin...and dont have to try and figure out how many people are behind....one color says "hay more behind....and one color says..."I am the last"...is all...
I have been using them going on my 4th year. I guess it’s just trying to be courteous to other riders and my wife and son do not have to remove their hand off the handle bars and keep better control of their sled. I guess it’s just a little insurance for me. I believe in Maine they are mandatory. I tried to get a couple of clubs to advertise what they are and educate riders but never happened. Riders in the front run with it in the amber mode and the last one in the group runs with theirs on green to indicate the last rider in that group.

From what a i am seeing this year it does not matter if they know there is another sled or a group comeing anyway.There are to many out there rideing like they are the only ones on the trails.

I know I made fun of signals and the light, sorry. Now on a serious note, what benefit to me is it to know how many guys are in a group. I honestly do not get it. I do want to understand why but there really is absolutely no good reason for me to know or tell other riders. Now, I almost always do signal because it seems the other people out there want to know. If they signal me I signal them back. If they do not than I do not. Again, I am not being sarcastic like I was earlier but give me a good reason why I need to know how many are in a group. What can we gain by knowing?
So if you meet a sled that has his "Ridelite" set to green, who's not to say there isn't another sled or group of sleds right around the next corner or on the other side of the hill?

I admit not much use on a grade as can see everyone coming. However for me in Twistys I like the sled count as trailing riders always **** bent to leather to catch up so if I know 3 more sleds coming I'll slow so not in next turn Apex. Allows me to be much more defensive so there is value for me.

I agree with Whitedust. It depends on where I'm riding. I like to know how many more sleds are coming at me - not so I can ride like an idiot. I usually slow down in twisties after I see that first sled because I'm not all that fond of seeing how close I can hug the inside of the turn with another sled coming at me. There are some tight spots out there and it's just information I can use. I like it when other people let me know but don't think anything less of anyone who doesn't use signals....just info for me. I tell my kids to keep their hands on the sled. I don't signal if I'm in a spot where I need both of MY hands on my sled.
Good idea, maybe ? Practical, no ! One should always drive defensively.... Do you have a fancy light or hand signals in your car or truck ? How accurate is anything if you have another group pull up the trail behind you and your unaware because you don't look, have or refuse to use mirrors......

Sure there is... no constant never ending stream where I ride always very long periods of no one. Not sure where you ride??There's never a last one......
