Handlebar risers

I have been looking into getting a handlebar riser and I was wondering what are some pros and cons? I like to stand up a lot but I also like sit for a break once in a while.

I've got a 5" on my sled. I couldn't live without it anymore. The benefits while standing far outweigh the ape-hanger feel while sitting. It also lets me get all the way forward to bring along a ladyfriend for a while. Make sure your cables are long enough to fully turn!

i have a 03 polaris 500 classic and just got 3 inch riser for mine and it is great.i do wish i would have gotten a 4 inch, still have to reach when standing, but it is built to sit unlike the new sleds so i guess it depends what machine you have.seems most new sleds come with one anyway.

i just stated using a riser last year and would never go back. if you do any jumping or standup riding i feel a riser is a must have! there is a guy on here selling some that he makes. just picked up a 4" from him to put on a sabercat. should be here in the next couple days

I agree cant go wrong ...I have a 07 mxz with a 4inch riser, extended throttle but brake cable was fine just clipped plastic ties and rerouted..

I put a riser on my old sled (Edge chassis) and my new sled has the telescoping bars built in (x-fire) and I for how I ride I don't know how I ever rode without one before.

That being said, when I first put the riser on my Edge it was great for standing up and riding but sitting down was like riding with an ape hanger set up. If we were on smooth trails or doing some longer mile rides it was not to comfy for sitting down. I added the shorty Polaris seat that raised me up a few inches and it made a world of difference. Now I could stand up and rid comfortably and then sit and ride comfortably. Be sure you think about that when picking a riser height and if you do much sit down riding I would advise to try and find a happy medium.

The ape hanger bars are uncomfortable and also harder to turn.

I agree with shoelessjoe

had an edge, put on riser but also added the shorty seat. it was great, considering I was just trying it at this time.

Then a fuze-bomb which I put a riser on but didn't want to buy thorottle cable, brake cable and lengthen all the wires as needed, added a 2" and wasn't happy but delt with it.

Now I've got a rev with 5" riser and 4" rise in the bars (non x-pkg) when I stand it feels like a dirt bike, good bend in the elbows, no reaching bars are right where I want them. When sitting arms can get tired but if they start to, I stand for 5 minutes and the fatigue goes away. Only issue now is with essentially 9" of rise from the steering post, I can't seem to get the clamps tight enough, they move once in a while, not much but I've noticed 1/2" to 1" movement from the start of the day to the end. usually from riding ditches and driveway approaches or hill climbing, not from trail riding. Still I wouldn't want them any lower. I love my bar height even though everyone I ride with thinks they look weird.

i put a 3 in. on my sled before this season and want higher. this spring i might stack some handlebar clamps with the riser to make it taller if i could find some grade 8 bolts longer than 4 inches.
