Harley Poker Chip Display

Last year when I was in Boston my bro-in-law saw me post a photo at a Harley store and sent me a text asking me to get him a poker chip. I got one, but never gave it to him. Well his b-day is coming up next week so I decided I'd get a few chips from all over and give them to him. He's the kind of guy that just wants the chips, doesn't matter if he's been to where they are from, so I started calling placing like Daytona, Sturgis, Key West and a few others. I also had been picking some up for him from my travels this past year so I've ended up with quite a few from some out of the way places.

Then, being the carpenter I decided to make a display board for them. I had some old 1916 barn wood left from a project so I ripped it down and made a frame, then ripped some small "rails", put an angle slot in them so a chip would slide in and lay against the backer board. Then I started painting everything. I color matched some Harley orange to a shirt, bought a brake caliper cover and glued it on the bottom frame face and put some picture hanging hardware on the back.

Turned out pretty good in my mind. If he stocks it completely full it will hold 105 chips. I think he'll be real surprised, and I'm hoping it will be a hit.

Click on the attachments, I can't get thumbnails to show up anymore. In the close-up of the Harley emblem it looks like the rail is red, not sure why the color was off, but you can see the orange in the full size shot.

Yeah, he's single again so I figure it's going in the living room. As for the bike comment, I sold him a sled one time for 500 bucks. It was a 99 Jag 440 deluxe with only 1100 miles. Was hoping to get him into riding, but all he did was ride it around his 1 acre lot, not once on the trail even though it started 2 blocks from his house. He ended up selling it 3 years later for $1,200. He's not seeing any help from me on motor sports again.

Beautiful job I am sure he will love it. Not sure I would have used old barn wood just to paint it? I am an old purest and would have left the old wood natural

I agree completely, the original intent was to leave the wood unfinished however as it went together it just didn't look right so I made the decision to paint it black. If I was to do it again I wouldn't waste the old wood on the frame but that's the way it turned out.

Very creative, nice job! No sense in letting material sit around when it can be repurposed, especially for a gift to someone close to you.-Mezz

I think the black and orange was the way to go with the project and the Chrome accent is the perfect touch
